I don't know how much snow and ice you have to deal with where you are (and where you drive), but if conditions are really bad I'd consider tires with microcellular rubber compounds, like the Blizzak WS-50 or one of the Yokohama tires (forget which). If conditions aren't so bad, then "regular" R/S/T rated winter tires or performance winter tires (typically H/V rated) would be okay.
Either way, it's best to get an extra set of wheels for the tires rather than swapping them in and out all the time. If the 2004 had a smaller wheel option (16" 17"??) see if you can downsize the tires and wheels to this size, which saves money and works better in the winter.

No matter how well all season tires handle, they will never be as good as a dedicated snow or ice tire. All season tires are just a compromise. I'm riding on Dunlop Winter Sport M3s right now (I went "minus 1" to 16 in). The car still slides a bit in 3-6 inches of snow but straight line traction and stoping power are still much better that with the all seasons.
Nothing beats dedicaed snow tires
