Pros and cons of 19'' wheels

Alright, I'm still figuring out the drop/wheels details of my next mod since I keep coming across new options. Will ALL 19'' wheels rub if the car is dropped at all? How about 18s? I have heard the 18'' G35 wheels rub when the wheels are turned all the way in either direction. My tires rubbing in front or back is going to drive me freaking crazy, I know it. Just looking for some insight. Thanks guys.

Pro's... it looks good.
Con''s... in most instances the car will be noticeably slower in acceleration, it will rub in most instances, unless you put some rubber bands on for tires. plus the cost$$$

With all that said.. I hope to order some 19" Moda R6's by the end of the summer

lower profile tires which means higher chances of bending your rim; if you live in an area w/ bad roads.

All that is what I've thought about. The rubbing is really what worries me. I will go nuts if it's rubbing on anything close to a regular basis. And I was looking at the R6s too

The only reason Marco's (Polo) car was rubbing was because he was slammed to all hell. He had NO wheel gap whatsoever. If you have drop it half of what Marco dropped it, you will be fine.

Does anyone make a 245/45/20 tire? I will be purchasing 20's in the next 2 weeks and having problems finding a tire outside of 245/35/20. I know the new SRT-8 300/magnum will have 245/45/20 tires in the rear but I'm having a hard time finding the manufacture.

I've had 19"s for four years... two unfortunate incidents meant I bent my wheels.... which sucks *****, especially for wheels $982 a pop... looks are killer, ride aint so hot, and the tires cost a grip $279 a pop for S02s...

but overall... I like em... but I have a set of 18"s for daily drivering if I really need em...

245/35/20 would prolly fit with no rubbing... but 245/45/20 wont work unless ur on a truck or something....

Bridgestone Fuzion ZRi and Dunlop Direzza DZ101 are not too pricey. You're right that some 20" tires are cheaper but it is pretty much a wash between a 19" wheel/tire package and a 20" wheel/tire package in most cases.

Because I think some 19s look ridiculously good with a little bit of a drop. I'm either getting a set of 18s (most likely the G35c wheels) or some 19s (possibly R6s). I'm just looking for a few ideas/concerns/etc. It's good to hear that not too many people have had problems with the 19s rubbing. That would really drive me insane.

Irish, also good to hear that your G35 wheels don't cause any problems. I know Lumbee said he had some minor rubbing when he was turned to lock.

Decisions, decisions

nothing wrong with 19"S just your choice of tire sizes for 20"s poor 19"s for that matter... 245/45-20 is just gross if you go 20"s use 245/35-20s... if you go 19"s you could use either 245/35-19s or maybe 245/40-19s

G35 wheels rub because the offset is 30mm... compared to our stock 45mm offset... offset is usually the reason why wheels rub...

Exactly, because if it was any smaller they have the possibility of springing off and hurting someone since they're rubberbands.

But seriously, the 245/35-19 is a perfect fit and at least Discount Tire had no problem mounting them, they were done within 30 minutes with all four wheels and tires. Good luck to you.

Just remember...if you upgrade in size, don't sacrifice the quality of the wheel. On the same token, the wheels will get damaged much more easily and more often, and it will cost you a great deal more to fix/replace them...

19s are the shiet!

I bent 19's before but i hit a curb so that doesnt count, but i hit plenty of pot holes and nothing ever happend.

The myth is your ride quality will go to **** but if your dropped with any thing over 17" you ride is crap anyways!!

as for tires, dont cheap out...

Ok...Maybe I am in another world or something when it comes to people debating and arguing over 19s and 20s...

Most say that 19s are ok, but 20s are crap...It's not that big of a difference. Or when someone says 20" black wheels are ok, but not chrome... it's the same size, color doesn't matter...

As stated many times before, your ride will be much different running anything larger than stock, so obviously those people don't care about a smooth ride, they just want big rims...

I guess it bothers me that everyone associates 20s with thugs or drug dealers...Why can't hardworking white collar people get 20" chrome wheels? And don't tell me that they dont...I guess it's ok to assume that some white collar people own a BMW, Mercedes, etc...Some of those come stock with 19s, hell even 20s for that matter (M5)....And yes, I know that the M5 is not your average daily driver, but they still have 20s. I bet if those 20s were chrome, you'd have a lot more people disliking the M5.

At the end of the day, it's your Max...Dress it up as you please...You pay the note, you park it in your driveway (or garage for the mater), so just do what makes you happy!

Before I go, let me apologize in advanced for those who may take this the wrong way!

1) No apologies neccessary
2) My ride is not crap
3) Black is different in terms of look and weight. Most black rims are a different design then the 20" chrome that fits FWD cars. The majority of 20" chrome FWD rims are the flashy kind that don't have a nice style to complement the car. Obviously there are expections like Foose Speedster's but there are much more of the other kind that the majority of people here do not like.

Hope that answers some of your questions.

xtantmaxima, I am not saying your ride is crap. And it's your opinion that black is different in terms of looks. And of course the black rims are of a different design...For that matter, all chrome wheels are of a different design. And what I think complements a car may not be your idea of a nice looking ride.

I didn't ask any questions, I think you misread the post. You just confirmed my post, you may want to read it again. And that's why I apologized, bcuz I knew there would be a few that misread it.

As written before, everyone has different tastes, different expectations, and that is what makes us unique. But bashing someone because they prefer 20s over 19s is crazy to me, because there isn't that much of a difference, or bcuz they choose chrome over black...

You're right, the only thing I disagreed with is the ride quality. I was just trying to give you an explanation as why some of the people here think what they do.
