I sold my 512s to DonGfun. PM him to see that he thinks of them, but I have the feeling that he didn't mount them on his car.

i know this thread is a bit old but i'm revisiting this issue since i'll be getting these tires sooner than i thought and don't want to get falkens due to some of the negative things i've heard about them. my stock tires are 215/55R17 and i'm looking at getting the toyo proxes 4. if i get them in 225/45R17 will that be ok? i understand that they will be wider but i'm not sure how the ratio works out. i want them to have about the same wheel gap so that my car doesn't look like more of a 4x4.

that means the best fitting toyo proxes would be the 245/45? that's probably too wide.
or i can get Toyo Proxes TPT in the exact size as my stock tires. anyone hear anything about these?

Your stock rims are 7 in wide. Your better bet will be 225/50 (stock SE size), or go off spec w/ 235/45. 235/50 will not only look dumb like on mud tires, but your speedo will read too slow.
I'd go w/ the Proxes 4 in 235/45 if they aren't in backorder. I was going to do that, but I found a set of steelies so I bought snow tires instead.

when you say mud tires...you mean too wide?

that might help

Check out those Avon 550's, I'm running them on my Max right now. I can't give you treadwear info, I've only put 300 miles on them. But as far as performance, they rock, way better then stock. I'm running 225/45/18's, they are w-speed rated (168mph) and are all season radials. They got way more grip than my old Continental's that were a SUMMER tire. I thought the Conti's sucked, I got a sidewall puncture in one of the tires (In all my years, never had one of those). My Avons were $131 each from Tire Rack. Best money I ever spent. I've tried ton's of different tires on various cars, and I wish I had known about Avon Tech's a lot earlier. If you want a tire that will out perform most summer tires (except tires costing 2 to 3X more), and still get good wet/snow traction (haven't seen the snow yet, but so far everything else is as advertised) then try these tires out. I'm lovin' them.

They are dup specs of the OEM tires. Your best bet is to go down to a STS and see what they have cuz they had to order mine. I also paid $9.99 a tire for hazardous coverage which means If i get a flat from the tire (not from glass or a nail) they will replace it free of charge, and that lasts for the duration I have the tires. Some might say thats a waste of $ but u never know. Also with Toyo's you can't mix and match when rotating the tires, you can only switch rear right with rear front, left rear for left front, which I think prolongs the life of the tires as well.
