question for anyone with 18" rims

hey, im buying these 5 spoke hyper black rims which are 18x7.5..wondering if 235/40/18's will fit on this wheel. Also what kind of tires do you guys recommend? I'm willing to spend up to $150 a tire....thanks again!

yep a 235/40/18 will fit just fine, it'll look good on a 7.5" wide wheel

go with anything cheap for the tire, kumho, hankook, falken

18 are risky

i have 18x7.5 7 spokes and on the roads in mass and newhampshire have already ruined three. They look good but if you hit any type of pothole or road work like where they are repaving a highway be extra careful because they are really esy to crack wide open

I opted for Kumho Ecsta ASXs $140 a tire, but I'm waiting for them to come in! Go to www.tirerack.com Here you can find surveys on all the tires you listed!

I have those tires, they are excellent. I drove in 9" of snow this winter, no problems at all. But they cost me $115 each, not sure why you are paying $140. Note they are rated 95W, so their load capacity exceeds the original equipment RS-A's.

THEY DO NOT (235/40-WR18), however, mount on a 7.5" rim. 8" is minimum. I believe it has to do with the aspect ratio, because usually a 235/45-17 can fit on a 7.5" rim.

The notion that 18" are harsher, slow the car down, are noisy, etc. is are urban myths. As we all know, 18's are standard on many cars now as OEM. I have had 18's since 2002, and have never once bent or scraped my rims. Are they mostly for looks? Yes.

Well, I can tell you for a fact that when I went from 16's to 18's I immediatly felt a difference in my acceleration from a stop.
As far as the harshenss goes, that is going to be due from such a low profile tire.
If your looking for a nicer, and somewhat softer ride go with 235/45/18.

This thread should also be in the wheel/tire section.

I've got nitto 555's on the same size wheels. Comfortable ride (a little more road noise) but an incredible handling tire, and right around that price range

Im currently on BFGoodrich KDW2's. I can honeslty say, these are some of the best tires Ive even driven on. I used to be a big fan of Nitto's, but these blow them away. They grip really well in both dry, and wet. Better in dry though of course.
I got them for 125 a piece at NTB, last i checked Tire Rack had them for 135.00.
They dont come in 235/40/18 only 225/40/18 or 235/45/18

I have Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 235/40/18 on my ADR rims and I like them. I've even hit a couple of potholes and (knock on wood) have not had any damage to the rims.

I had some of them, not too bad for the price i guess.
They started out fairly good, but started getting hard after a while.
They do not handle very well though, but in all a good cheap tire i guess.
I wouldnt get them again though.

Oh, yea this is for my lakeshore blue max..=] i ordered lots of stuff already but not posting any pictures yet =P

I think that is a bad suggestion, that is absolutely the wrong size/profile for the car. The overall diameter needs to be within a small % of the original 215/55-16. If you absolutely feel you need more sidewall, stick with stock. Or you can do 235/45-17 which gives you 1" more rubber than an 18" setup, with virtually the same diameter as stock. You don't want 2" more wheel and then 1" even more rubber, which the 235/45-18 would do. In such a case your diameter is 1" larger than stock. Your speedo will be off by 4%, why not keep it accurate?

It woulnt even be a full inch in height on the side wall.
The height is based on a percentage of the width.
If it was truly a 2 inch increase with the wheel and then another 1 inch of tire and matched with a drop you would rub continously.
Ive seen many cars with this setup and the actual increase of sidewall was very minimal.
Im sure the speedo would be a bit off, but just by going wiht an 18" wheel set up is going to throw it off a bit.

if you go for a 235/45/18 setup then you might as well get seventeens because thats about how big your rims will look...also they might look a lil funny imo...wouldnt the extra diameter affect your speedometer?

Several websites have 235/45 18 (including TireRack) as 1 of the proper "plus-size" conversions for Maximas (at least 5th gen). I've also seen some suggest 225/45 18 along with the normal 40 series tires conversions. 40 series tires just won't cut it in some areas of the US - especially here in NYC where the roads are horrible.

Flavor_24/7 - Thanx for those pics. I love how those wheels and tire size look, even without the drop. That is probably the size combo I am going to go for on my 01 AE MAX.
