another tire Question ???
another tire Question ???
whats guys.. and gals..
I was wondering if anyone had changed their tire to 255/45 18 .. I know, I might as well change them to 20's.. not really like that big tires things.. thou it look nice.. I just wanted something wider . Also, if I changed them with this will make a big impact to gas milage and all that stuff.
What if I changed it to a smaller tire ? 235/45 18... I need your opinion ?
Please help !!!

If its on the stock wheel, i dont think it can support a tire width of 255mm. I have put 255's on my 20's with a 9 in wide rim and with a drop. I was at an autocross race this weekend and everyone there kept asking me if my rear tires rubbed in the wheel well cause it sure looks like it will but i didn't notice any rubbing while taking turns extremely sharp.
kapesports - Going up or down only one tire size should have an insignificant effect on gas mileage.
Going from 45 profile to 55 profile increases not only the tire width by ten millimeters, but also increases the outer tire diameter very slightly. Likewise, dropping to a 35 profile decreases not only the tire width by ten millimeters, but also decreases the outer tire diameter very slightly.
A slightly larger diameter tire may turn very slightly fewer revs per mile, but that is offset by that larger tire's slightly higher unsprung weight.
Likewise, a slightly smaller diameter tire may turn very slightly more revs per mile, but that is offset by that smaller tire's slightly lower unsprung weight.
So the result should be little if any change in mpg.
