My rims are g35 17s, im just wondering how wide of a tire i can put on it.
I want traction for when i get my S/C.
Can i fit a 245's on it with a 45 sidewall?

245's on a 7" wide will fit like a 400lb dude on a bar stool. You can put in on, but it's not a good idea. Stick with 215 or 225 for better handling.Originally Posted by maxspeed96CT

I agree the widest you should go is 235.Originally Posted by Ammi
235 is pushing it. 245 is definitely a no no

Most tire manufacturers (if not all) recommed at least 7.5" width for 235, so 225 would brobably be the best bet for 7". Although, several org member are running 235 on 7" wide wheel w/ no claimed problems. So, if you want to stay on the safe side run 225 otherwise go for 235.
check out www.1010tires.com tire calculator. tells you rim width and how wide you can run as well as speedo error.
1) Decide on the tire you want. ie.. Brand/size.
2) Then go to the brand's website and research that tire's specification. It will list the min-max wheel size for that particular tire. Remember just because it will physically fit, doesn't mean it's recommended or safe.
Here is an example. You can actually mount very low speed rated tires on your wheels. But that's neither safe or in your best interests to do so.

On A 17x7" Wheel It Is Recommended To Go No Larger Then A 225. I Personally Think That 235 Is A Little Bit Too Big, But It Will Work.
GWTDMI Hey
take your caps off ...
And to the orignal poster ... read the stickys not sure what forum but it's there .,.. theres lots of discussions on this... 235 = no one has had problems, but it's typically not recommended. 225 is the widest recommended but then again You can put S rated tires and drive around @ 130mph, but it's not recommended...

I have had a number of tires on my OEM 17x7's...found that (with the same tire) the 235/45/17 had much sloppier handling than the 225/50/17 (stock SE size). The 235's did not provide superior traction either.
For comparison's sake, I use the G35 coupe 17's when autocrossing (which are 17x7.5 front and 17x8 rear) and I run 225/45/17 all-around. Handling is much improved. Those who autocross and road race know that a good general rule is that the closer you get to the MINIMUM width tire for a certain rim, the better your handling will be, whereas the closer you get to the MAXIMUM tire width for that rim, the sloppier handling will be.
Traction will not be greatly affected either way for drag, since the wider rim will have less pressure per square inch of tread, but more tread - and the narrower rim will have more pressure per square inch of tread, but less tread. Essentially it's a "push" ...
