Breaking new tires a myth?
I do not plan on driving my new tires aggresively, but I heard that i am suppose to break them in by driving 50 miles under 50 mph. Is this true? Tirerack says to just drive easily.
The only reason I ask is because I will need to drive on the interstate about a day or two after they are installed. (tires are kuhmo asx)

I've never heard of this in my life. Nor have I eve heard of a similar warning with any new car purchased. I don't think there is any problem cruising down an interstate when they are brand new, but perhaps autocross is a different matter but I don't know why.

Nah, dont' worry about them.
I bought a set of ASX and took them to the road course the next day.. 130mph into a hard left-hand corner.. they liked it.
if you're talking about race compounds, that's a different story... they need a couple of heat cycles to be their best. street tires will improve with a few heat cycles on them as well, but you're not worried about total traction or anything here, and interstate driving is pretty easy on a tire- all things considered.
drive happy man.

I think the idea is 2 fold..... make sure all the mold release agent is gone before you push them too hard.... most tires are a little slick right outa the box due to the release agent. Also they would like you to heat cycle them a few times to start the hardening process before you start beating on them
