Look at the survey results in the category you are after. Check customer reviews.

BF Goodrich Traction TA (H-rated) would probably perform well year round for you in IL. That's what I'm going to get in another 5 or 6K.

I have the AVS db2's and love um. Good all around traction and pretty good wear.

About 6 months ago I got Falken 512's. I would not recommend these tire to anyone. In retrospect, I would have looked at the Turanza LS-V's or the Toyo Proxes 4.

I recently bought Michelin Hydoedges (all seasons) and they're great. Excellent handling in wet weather and they resist hydroplaning very well - I was testing that out yesterday! Cornering is pretty good IMO, but I haven't been able to compare them to any other tires on my car except my winter ones. They are rated pretty well for snow traction too, but I won't be using mine in the winter. Very long tread life, which helped with my decision. I paid around $800 Canadian including taxes, installation, etc. We have 15% tax on EVERYTHING so they'll probably be cheaper for you.

Here's a link to reviews on them:

i was torn between the p zeros and the good year triple tread. i ended up getting the p zeros. 225/50/16 on the stock skinny rim is not a very responsive combo, but thats what ive always run. the tire would be better suited on a wider rim. the stock wheels are better with 215/55/16, cuz there is a good amount of slop with wider tires. But grip is stupendus.

Like I said, consider BF Goodrich Traction TA (H-rated).

Woot! You're the first fellow Nokian supporter I've seen on here!!! I've got Nokian Haakapeliita RSI's for my winter tires and they're phenomenal for traction. I've heard good things about the WR's too, but I know you'll have to sacrifice some handling for the benefit of better winter traction. I would have got them but they were a little more than I wanted to pay. They're a Finnish brand and they make great tires...they actually have some performance tires that are very cool, but expensive!
