Custom 19" Rims...
Custom 19" Rims...
I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I sell CNC Machine Tools. A couple of weeks ago we had a big Open House for our customers and one of the main demos we did was cutting motorcycle rims from forged aluminum blanks. I was awesome. Unfortunately we cannot sell or give the rims away because we are not certified rim manufacturers and we don't have insurance for the liability issue.
However, the company I bought the blanks from also has "Unfinished Automotive" 1-piece forged aluminum rims for cars (just recently became available). I spoke with the inside sales consultant and mentioned to him my interest in cutting my own rims for my Max. I've decided to go with their 19" x 7.5" forged blanks. I've ordered just one for the time being to make sure we can complete the machining process. I've been flipping through custom car magazines to get ideas for the design. I've narrowed it down to a 7-spoke style with a crazy recessed form in the center. This design is not set in stone so I would like to obtain design ideas from you rim gurus. I am fortunate enough to have the latest, state-of-the-art CNC Machining Centers and Lathes in my showroom at the office, and I wish I could use them to create customized rims for anyone will to pay the right price, but I can't. I figure I can't sue myself so I will attempt to make my own rims. If they come out good, I guess I can open a separate business (my ultimate dream) to manufacture both Motorcyle and Car (for mostly Maximas).
I will keep you informed on my progress (hopefully with pictures and very soon). Until , then let me know if you have any ideas.
Happy Birthday to me (July 9th),
