Toyo Proxes 4 or Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S?

I've narrowed it down to these two brands after checking over the 1010tires.com reviews. I want good grip in wet and dry and still have a really quiet tire. Both are rated about the same and the price locally is exactly the same. Which would you choose? My 512's are at the wear bars already and I'll have to get replacements very soon. The 512's are starting to feel odd.

Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S. What does your research say about tire life on the two tires?
Unfortunately, Toyo PRoxes 4 aren't covered on tirerack. I like what I see about the Pirellis.

No offence to MaxRB8, lol!

As far as I understand it they perform about the same with the Proxes being cheaper and lighter, but the pirellis lasting longer. I am trying to make the same decision myself and I am leaning slightly towards the proxes. However you really cant go wrong with either.

The interesting thing is that there's only two Toyo dealers in town. So far its been $215.99 each from 1010tires and $225 from OK Tires for 17".

MaxRB8 bought his cheap at some place off East Hastings and Commercial Drive or somewhere in that neck of thw woods, but I don't believe he got tire rotations/balancing/repairs thrown in, which I would want.

Also try Volco Tires & Wheels in Richmond (604) 270-4727. I priced out some Toyo TPTs there some time back. The Proxes and T1S won't fit my wheels.

Since the tires are warrantied for 50,000kms and I only have 11,393kms remaining, is it worth it to go back and put in a claim? They sell only Bridgestones, BFGoodrich, Federal, Falken, Michelin, Kumho and Yokos. No Toyos nor Pirelli.

Does that compell you to buy the same tires again and apply the warranty against that purchase? Where did you buy the Falkens?

$225 per tire!? Even with the usa exchange rate, that's still about $700 for all 4 tires?! Blackcat, you need to buy these G wheels. Comes with Michelin Pilots that retail for $240/tire in US$.

I understand that. I'm just wondering how the warranty works and where you bought the tires. Did you get them at National Tire out in Delta?

Ive had the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S on for about 10k miles and Im completely satisified with them. I paid $127/tire + $50 for shipping bring my total to around $550 shipped. Oh yeah, I got (235/45/17) and have NO regrets. Good luck with your choice.

Thanks for your comments. How would you describe the road noise, handling and comfort level on them?

mm347 was kind enough to give me a website to check out and it was the cheapest price for Toyo Proxes 4 I've come across so far. (I was looking for 215/55/16's) but you could give it a looksee to see if it's cheaper for you too.

happy hunting.

toyos for less

How many miles have you put on them so far? How much tread is left?

about 45-50k? i think... the rears still have tread, and the fronts are nearly at the wear bars..

That's still better than my Falkens ZE-512's. The tread lasted for 38,500kms / 23,9223 miles although they were rated for 50,000kms/31,068 miles. I'm going to give the Pirellis a try.

My 512's have 25K on them and are still at 60% tread. I've seen others on the org complain about the 512's treadware, maybe I'm just lucky!

Did anything about the Toyo's turn you off to them or is the Pirelli simply easier to get where you are?

I'm running 235/40/18 Toyo Proxes 4's right now for about two months or so. They have phenomenal grip and my experience with past Toyos is that they last like iron. I would recommend them over the Pirellis because I understand the Pirellis have a fairly short lifespan.

I based my decision on the writeups in TireRack.com. I went for overall grip in the wet and dry categories, longevity as well as road noise. So far I'm happy with the choice!

Are they the M+S or the regular PZero Nero's?

Discount tire once loaned me the regular PZero while waiting for a replacement M+S to arrive and in the 4 months (no kidding, i drive a lot) i've had it, the tread was down to a point that Discount thought i replaced it with a used one. The regular PZ's did seem to have better dry traction though.

My M+S has gone through nearly 20k troublefree miles and it's still working like a charm. Still plenty of tread left too.

The PZero Neros feel pretty good so far! None of that annoying tire squeal from even a simple turn! Ride is a bit more comfortable over my usual bumps, very quiet and on the hwy the floaty feel is gone.

If it helps Mr. BlackCat, I recently bought 235-45-17 Proxes 4's from a local America's Tire Co. (Discount Tire Co.) for $105 each. I like them a lot. A tad of tire noise on certain surfaces at certain speeds but they look cool and handle really well wet or dry. I can't say they are better than the Perelli's because I have no way of knowing one way or the other but I thought my input might help you out some.

Thanks for the info but I've already spent my coin on the Pirelli's!
I don't miss my Falkens at all now. Picked up my first screw on the front passenger side tire already but thank goodness it was a short one!

I've heard of similar stories on most of Pirelli's high-performance line-up. But i've had the M+S for 20k miles now and i can barely hear unusually loud road noise - if anything it's the wind noise that bothers me.
