though probably pricy, my first thought would be,that guy cant afford tires. Definitely too minimalist (no substance to it) and ugly to be the next fad, ie: spinners. Maybe theyll spruce it up....chrome it out,AND make it have something spinning.

Cribs 2007.... 'On the Benz, you know i got the hot 22" tweels with the chrome. If you still have air in your tires, step your tire game up'
Then 4-5 months later the white guy celebs (skaters,bikers,rap-rock hybrid band members) will cop them too.Except they will wont be cool anymore by then.

Does anyone here (besides the original poster) actually know anything about these things? They're freakin' crazy technology.
The way they're designed, they'll flex vertically as much as you need for improved traction and ride quality, but they're incredibly stiff laterally so that they stay more stable in corners than anything to date. NO MORE sidewall effects. That is insane. And to top it all off, they're entirely maintenance-free -- no more watching air pressure.
Michelin is having trouble keeping the weight and noise down, but notwithstanding that, you guys are looking at the future of wheels. So show some damn respect.

yeah u guys need to stop flamming these wheels since none of us have actually driven on them, the traction and handling im sure are going to be amazing and far superior to tires
i have some sceen some crazy **** from the materials science majors at my school

they need to make some perforated rubber side to cover up that nasty spider web shiit. im sure the time for these will come and they may literally be the last tire you ever have to buy
it looks like its floating!

To clear up some misconception here, what's shown above is the rim and the internals of the rubber to demonstrate how the Tweel works.
Production units will look just like any other wheel and tire combo that you see today, but instead of an inner tube/steel belts/air inside the tire, you get the Tweel mechanism.
Btw, TWEEL stands for "Tire and Wheel".

on the people exagerating 2 years to mean january, he does have a valid point, this was brought up several months ago in the tires forum so it has been discussed here before.
My guess...they are leaving the sides open only for marketing purposes so people can see how it will work and if they are produced, they will look like a regular tire, although the picture below looks pretty sweet (to me).
I like it because the way it looks like it's floating and the rear tire looks to be expanding which is kind of weird.
