I am looking for some feedback as well on a good set of all seasons in 225/50/17 or 235/50/17 for stock 03 SE TE rims, I gotta order them by this Sat, rain is a coming here in the northwest pacific.
Cost is a factor for me and I have 4 choices overall to choose from
1) Falken 912's - $364 shipped
2) Pirelli P Zero Neros - looking for best deal for 225/50/17
3) Nitto NT NeoGen ZR - $480 shipped
4)Avid V4S - $500 shipped
Gimme some feedback guys, I am tired of reading, leaning towards the Falkens but Nittos look darn good as well.....

Falkens are junk
You'll be replacing the Falkens within two years. My wifes car (2003 SE 6 speed) only got about 25k out of them. They may look cheaper up front, but you will be doing this all over again in two years. Cost was an issue wtih me when I replaced the orignial Yokohama AVS ES100s and I went with the Falken-512. They wore quicly. I did not pay attention to the UTQG treadware of 360. There is no way the 912s will last 40,000 miles they have the same 360 treadware rating. I bought the Yokohama Avids because of the UTQG treadwear rating of 500, pluse i got 90 days same as cash from Disount Tire direct. They got really good customer ratings on tirerack.com. I'm just trying to save you some headache down the road. You'll be better of with something other than the falkens. They are junk.

Hey guys I'm up against replacing my tires on my 17" g35 coupe wheels. They have oem potenzas on them currently and I'm thinking that I don't want to go into winter with them. I need some good all season tires. We don't get tons of snow here in Kansas but we do get some. What is a good tire for this situation? I'm not wanting to spend a lot for them either. I've read this thread and I'm wondering if the tires mentioned here are about all the decent options out there?
#127
So, I've heard a vote or 2 going for these things ---->Continental ContiExtremeContact. Looks as if Tirerack liked them for some decent snow travel. Will I, time will tell. Price is great.

Does anyone know what the tire weight of the contiextremes are? I'm pretty sure i'm going to go with these but I'd like to know if I will be sacrificing some performance in the summer by running these? Also according to a wheel calculator 245/45/17 would be closest to stock size as far as the speedo bein correct. I know 235/45/17 is the more popular size. I have 7.5" and 8" staggered g-coupe wheels. Would I be pretty retarded getting 245 instead of 235?

#131
Ok this answers the questions about weight. I'm just wondering about 245 instead of 235? I think I've heard that they have soft sidewalls so 235 would probably be better than 245 right? I'd just have to live with the speedo being 2% off?
#132
235/45 is 2nd best compared to stock 225/50 for our stock 17s. I wanted to get 235/45since im on craptenzas right now and they almost killed me numerous times last winter. Im just afraid going with 235/45 will result in a downgrade in ride quality compared to stock. Its a toss up between the falkens 512s and the 912s...maybe I'll even get toyo proxes 4 again. they were great on my 18s
#133
Ya well im not on stock 17s anymore... 7.5" and 8" g-coupe wheels. I wish i knew if 245 would be way to wide for the front 7.5" I'm afraid it would be... 235 45 17 is back ordered everywhere but 245 45 17 isn't...I'm stumped

Yokohama Avid V4S v. Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS
Long time lurker, not too often poster.
I have a Max 01 20th Anniv Edition that is coming due for tires again. I started with the OEM, got just over 50k out of them but yes they sucked in wet. Then tried the Ziex 512's and they have been pretty good for the money although so-so in snow, but a 1000 times better in wet than the OEM.
I am at about 91k now and I am going to be carrying some precious cargo (new baby girl) and I want to get something that I can afford AND hopefully for better all-season ability. I am trying to decide between the two listed in the subject......
Yokohama Avid V4S v. Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS
The Tirerack forums seem to favor the Potenzas as does a local dealer. The Avids seem to lose it in the wet traction dept. I am not a racer, but would say that I drive aggressively. The Central CT winters have been hit and miss the last few years and snow usually doesn't stay on the road too long, nor do I travel in the Max when it's say 6+ inches.
Hoping for some current feedback. TIA

They are both very good, highly rated tires but you are also looking at about $100 difference in price. I was also comparing these, figured for the price I'll just go with a set of Yokos V4s for just under $500 out the door. I'm happy with my choice.

I have had the Falken 912's on my wifes 03 SE now for just about 3000 miles. I love them they are excellent and imho better than the 512's I have had in past on my 02 Spec V.
Road noise is better and the wet weather performance is great, and I mean great. Dry traction as well is very good , wear seems to be very even and I guess time will tell but for now based on what I paid at 364 shipped (1 mth prior to the crazy 100 off discount offered) I am still satisfied

JK,
I will be getting the 960's put on tomorrow. Just in time for a little slip-sliding this coming Monday (snow/sleet mix). With 3/32" right now (or less actually) these will be a welcome addition. I'll post back after breaking them in a little.

Just got the Falken 912s (November 2007 Consumer Reports top UHP all-season tire pick) put on my '02 Maxima. So far I like them, we've had some heavy rain and light snow since I put them on and the traction has been great. They're pretty grippy on dry pavement too...I can sit in neutral on steeper inclines than before and the car won't move, and you can feel that it takes a little more power to get going from a stop. Gas mileage seems to have gone down 5-10% as a result...I'll be taking a long road trip soon so we'll see what highway mileage is like.
From reading Consumer Reports it sounds like the Continental ContiExtremeContact would have been a better tire, but they were sold out everywhere and I wanted to get tires before my trip. Also the Contis don't come in 225/50/17, only 225/45/17. Not a big deal though I guess.

guinea pig here
I've had the 960's on for about two and a half weeks now. So far I have driven daily to work and back (about 19 miles each way highway/city) and we have had two ice storms, one rain storm, one surprise snow storm right at the 5pm commute home, one big snow storm (12") and today's snow/ice/sleet/rain mix.
The tires have handled really well. I am cornering much better than with the Falken 512's albiet the new tires have much more tread and the Falkens I probably let slip on the inflation a little bit in the last month. The 960's are at about 38psi. The guys that installed did a great job. Gas mileage is up about 5%.
In the ice storms the tires handled very good. I was on treated roads, but still there were many slippery spots and I only slipped a little from stop signs on the secondarys. The surprise storm gave them the real test. Flurries turned into about 4-5 inches of snow and my route home has a couple of options for inclines that I have to go up. I decided to test them on the one no one else was taking that day except the 4x4's. The road was not treated, maybe had a plow pass earlier, but it was fairly well snow covered. They performed beautifully. Those of you in CT might know Laning Street off of Queen next to Exit 32 on 84.....that's the one. The big snow storm I was smart and since the wife is home with the newborn I took her Xterra with it's brand new Geolanders :-)
Hope this helps a few of you.

Just got done driving 1000 miles on my Falken 912s. They're very quiet most of the time, except on some highway surfaces that I think would be noisy with any tire. Highway mileage with these was between 23 (3 hours in a 40mph crosswind, yay) and 28. So a bit lower than with the Yokos I had before, maybe inflating them to more than 32 psi would help that.

Goodyear Eagle GT HR, been the best all season ive come across got a good 50k out of them, grips pretty good too
Goodyear Excellence/Eagle ResponsEdge (have the same tread design) not too good, treadwire was horrible 15K and they were gone, as for handling they had to be the most noisy tires ive ever come across, went up to the Dragon ever turn even at low speed they were squealing like a pig. and they werent cheap paid around $450 for all 4
Toyo Proxes, bought the car with this on them, they are decent provide pretty good grip also took these to the Dragon no stupid squealing, dont know how long they have been on the car so I cant tell u how good the treadwear is but when i got the car it was probably 40-30% when i went to the Dragon it was at 25% maybe after the Dragon the were done ive put 12k on them if I didnt go to the Dragon im sure I could have got close to 17k out of them
btw all on stock wheels

I have 235/40/18 tires and I really liked my Kumho Ecsta ASX's at first but I don't think I will get the 30k out of them as I had hoped. Currently 22k on them and I am now looking for another set of tires. Not sure why they have worn so fast and I just moved back to the Midwest and they were garbage in the snow, couldn't even get up a 20 degree slope out of a parking lot!

I've been running the Goodyear Comfortread tires for about 6 months now. They are probably one of the best riding tires I've ever had. They track awsome on the highway! Wet weather traction is good, had them in 4 inches of snow just recently without to much trouble. They look as if they will last forever! Very pleased with the tire.

Norcal all season tires recommendation
All four of my tired bold and one tire has 4 nails in it. So I'm changing all 4 tires. I live in Northern California, degrees are from 40 - 110. What do you guys recommend? All season tired only and please list price THANKS!

Based on recent Tirerack survey's, and above comments:
1)Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS
2)Yokohoma Advan S.4
3) Goodyear Eagle F1 all season
4) Michelin Pilot Exalto A/s
5) Bridgestone Potenza G0009
I may go for the RE960AS vs F1 A/s because I need decent winter light snow traction (Tahoe) even though I live in Norcal. Anyone know the relative weights with these two?

Yokohama Avid V4S
Best All season tire: Im on my second set of these guys and and absolutely 100% satisfied! definite improvement on wet and dry traction, cornering and all around improvement in every day driving. I drive pretty hard and have tested the boundaries of the tires on many occasions. I have yet to hear even a chirp while taking highway on ramps and 60 - 80MPH... HIGHLY recommend

I know it's an old thread but still hoping for answers... I live in Ontario, Canada and was looking for some snow tires this year as my bald a/s are a disaster waiting to happen in the snow... In Quebec you now get a fine for not having winter tires, so all the tire stores and pretty much any retailer that sells tires are being forced to ship everything to QC, leaving me with no winter tires around the GTA (unless someone knows something?)
So I was wondering how good the Toyo 4s, Bridgestone RE960AS & Michelin Pilot sport a/s handle specifically in the SNOW? I'm driving up 5 hours to Ottawa in February and there's snow storms regularly here in Mississauga and with my tires now I can barely stop from 30km/h. Thanks for any info

While I voted for the Michelin Pilot sport, I have just easily survived a Utah winter with Eagle F1 all seasons that are a nice compromise with snow, rain and dry traction and sporty handling.. They are certainly better than any balding tire, and definitely better than my previous Blowtenzas.

Looks like Continental FINALLY decided to make their ExtremeContacts in our size.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes
EDIT - it looks like it's a revision of the original tire and not the same exact tread pattern.

Well after two sets of Pirelli PZero Nero MS tires, I think I want something new. I auto-x my car and I can feel the Pirellis getting mushy on me. I don't have money for dedicated track wheels/tires, and thus I also don't have money for winter wheels/tires, so I need some good AS tires that will hold up to auto-x. I think I'm going to get the Michelin Pilot Sport AS Plus tires. Everything looks good on tirerack.com, but I wanted to see what people here think of them. Any insights? My priorities are ability to deal with heat, stickiness/stiff sidewall and long life. I don't care about noise and harshness.
