Question about fitment

Question about fitment
As my other thread says, I am looking for new rims. How can you tell if a certain tire and rim combo will fit? Is there a calculator or certain specs that have to be met? If so, where can I find those specs?
I think knowing this will help me narrow down my choices.
EDIT: Just came along a package for sale. I like the rims, which is good. However, I'm not sure if they will fit. They are 19 x 9 with 225 35 19 Toyo Proxes. The owner is not sure of the offset, but did in fact have them on a 1995 Maxima. Will they fit, and how do you know?
Also, if they do fit, should I still buy them? All 4 wheels have some curb rash on them. There are scratches and discoloration on inner side of the wheel. One wheel is slightly bent on the outer lip from hitting a pot-hole BUT tire still holds air and has been that way for about a year now. Is it a big deal that it's bent? The tires still have about 80% or so. However, one have 50% and is a Bridgestone.
Thanks
