A question for Toyo Proxes 4 owners
A question for Toyo Proxes 4 owners
It's time for me to get a new set of tires, currently i'm running on Pirelli PZero Nero M+S. They're awesome tires regardless of condition, however it tramlines quite a bit.
That said, have you guys (and gals) ever had tramlining problems with the 4's? If you could also post your profiles i'd appreciate it. I'm getting 245/45/17's by the way.
Thanks!
- Mike

I have the PRoxes 4 and love them, a tramlining answer is pretty subjective, yes they do, bad? no. I think any aggressive directional tire will do this to some degree, I can only speak from experience and I've never compared directly to PZero's but they tramline no worse than Conti's or Yok Avid's, I've had both of those as well ( Conti's briefly but very good in the rain)
BTW the stock replacement size is 235/45/17

Understood, though the PZN's get a lot of rap about tramlining (at least as far as Tirerack reviews are concerned) and i do feel it - it tugs the car quite bad. On narrow construction roads, this poses a problem.

I figured the 'net could define it better than i could, so here goes
"...causes your front tires to follow ruts or longitudinal cracks in the road surface, forcing you to fight the steering wheel to keep the car going in the direction you wish. Tramlining is related to tire size and tread design. Some tires tramline very badly, and others not at all. High-performance, wide, low profile tires are often the worst. Tramlining can be reduced or eliminated by changing to a different tire design."

I got the proxe 4's, and i love them, and i will purchase them again if i keep my stock wheels on. I didnt get any tramlining in the beginning with full tread, but now im starting to feel it, but i think thats because im using my nitrous...

Based on the above definition, no tramlining here to speak of. At least no more than any other tires I've ridden on.

Thank's for the responses everyone!
Are you saying that it also varies between tires of the same make and model?
How does having nitrous make the car tramline more than it does? Unless you're purposely spraying while going over the junctions, i don't see how this is connected.
How long have you had your Proxes and what size are you running?
Sort of, it just depends how bad the rubbing is and how often it happens - though if you can avoid it, don't even try that setup. It's not worth the trouble. Just a reminder, 245/45/17's is a bad size for OEM wheels. 235 is stretching it, 245 is just plain wrong.

235/45/17 is a preferable replacement for the OEM rims if 225/50/17 is not available...
btw I use the Proxes 4 on my 18's (235/40/18) and tramlining is very minor only on very deep, long ruts.
