Toyo Proxes 4- what do you guys think
just picked up a set of these in 245 35 20, does anyone here have any experience with them? they look really good and good reviews and all, and they definitly have a better track record than the Hankook Ventus Sport k104's i was also lookin at, any input would be appreciated. thanks

Interesting comparison. I actually just recently went from 205/55/16 Hankook Ventus Sport K104s to 225/50/16 Toyo Proxes 4s.
The K104s were good tires. They gripped well, steering response was good, and they did well in the rain. The thing that blows my mind is how durable they were: I swear to you on my life I don't understand how they didn't bubble or blow out on some of the stuff they hit, but they were 100% fine, time after time. So, yeah... if my experience is any indicator, they're not the ultimate tire or anything, but they're great for what they are.
Their only true weakness is that they're summer tires, which is why comparing them to the Proxes 4s isn't really apples-to-apples. The Proxes 4s are all-season tires and they're good in the snow, whereas the K104s are practically a set of skis. That said, the Proxes 4s are easily competitive with the K104s in the dry, better in the wet, and significantly better at hydroplaning resistance. They're the closest thing to a cost-effective all-season performer that I've ever seen. Their big weakness is sidewall strength: I had the pressures at 35 psi all around and got SIGNIFICANT sidewall flex until I bumped the fronts up to 44 psi; my rears are still at 35 and my back end is still a little squirmy. The sidewall flex definitely hurts steering response and cornering stability, so it's a good thing that these tires are rated to 50 psi or more. In terms of grip, though, they're definitely more than adequate. I can't give a more accurate comparison of dry grip since my Proxes 4s are wider than my K104s were, but suffice it to say I am not really hurting for grip on the street.
The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 is also a summer tire, so like the K104, it will be utterly useless in the snow. But in the wet and dry, it will absolutely mop the floor with both the K104 and the Proxes 4 -- the F1 GS-D3 is a top-of-the-line summer tire, whereas the K104 is a cheap-ish midrange summer tire and the Proxes 4 is an all-season tire.

I like mine. Only complaint is noise at high speeds. That's more or less an inherent Maxima problem, however. I'm curious to know what are the maximum amount of miles people have gotten out of their 4's.

ya you know i was looking into the ventus k104's 245 35 20, but i read lots of neg reviews about them, ie weak side walls and just an all around crappy tire, and one guy on here told me his side wall started to bubble on him, i dont need that, i ve heard nothing but good things about the proxes though
Just got mine in ATL! Toyo 235/45ZR17 Proxes 4 for $600 installed and lifetime rotate and balancing.
So far 5 miles on them but can already feel a MAJOR difference compared to the craPotenza's. I really like the tread pattern as well.

i got em for 450 mounted/balanced in 225-50-16 from a Goodyear tire/mechanic shop. I love them. Great grip in wet/dry. I wasnt too impressed in the snow but when it did snow, there was about 6 inches on the road so, tough call.
I'd reccomend them, deffinetely

Where'd you buy those skins?
I checked at Kaufman Tire in the ATL - and the price was about the same.
However, the P-Zero Neros were almost $200 mounted and balanced. Ugh. I want the Neros, but that's almost the same as Michelins!

Best of luck. The guy that sold us the tires cut us a deal since I was looking in the 400 - 600 range. I'm sure if you talk about Maximas and the ORG maybe even, he'll do the same for you b/c he'll most likely remember me from yesterday. Was a black guy w/ glasses - very good guy and very helpful.
Take care

Toyo Proxes 4 are awesome the follow they road really well. I got mine for 560 installed balanced etc.... They don't squeal at all when they lose traction you'll hear them lose traction but they don't squeal like some of the other sissy tires.

I got them for 380 mounted, balanced, tax, and a 10 dollar tip at a local shop. Me got a hookup....his normal price is 420....225/45/17
I had a set of 18" Proxie 4's on my lowered 2000 Prelude (can't remember the exact size). I liked them alot except for one thing- they could not handle the potholes in New England roads. I ruined 2 tires by either cuttign or bubbling the sidewalls hitting a small hole or manhole cover. After teh second replacement, I dumped the 18's and went to used 17's with Michelin Pilot SPorts; much more practical. But the Pilots did not have the grip that the Toyos did. I could get the back of the car to swing out with the Pilots.

I've had my Proxes 4 for over a year now and still love them. In fact I made sure to get Toyos put on the wife's van after finding out how good these are.
One problem though, I had a tire rotation, and they didn't notice that these tires are directional (I didn't know it at the time either). I didn't notice anything wrong for a while, but slowly a funny noise started coming from the tires. It finally got bad enough that I took the car to the place that put the Toyos on the van. He noticed right away and re-rotated the tires correctly. They still make some noise but I'm hoping as they wear more, they will get back to normal.
When it comes time for replacements, I will definitely get these again.
