Using tires for long periods.. ?
I just placed my order for 4 toyo t1r's, and I have some questions. I'll be attending a new college next year, and my car will be parked for a good amount of that time, I doubt I'll be doing much driving. My question is do tires get "old" after a certain period? Ie., can I have these tires on for 5 years assuming I do very minimal driving with them? Will the cold weather mess with the rubber?
And one other question. Do most people who have summer performance tires take them off for the winter?
Thanks!
Dan

Yes the tires will get old from being exposed to sun, ect. The rubber in your tires changes and gets harder over time as well as every time you drive the car (heat cycle). I don't see a problem with the tires lasting 5yrs, just be aware that the performance will decrease over time. The T1Rs are summer tires, so cold temps will reduce their performance as well. Once the tire temps come up they will perform normally, however they will feel slick when cold.
