1) the ones that you take the time to rotate
2) the ones with the highest treadwear rating
3) the ones that you don't abuse.

4) the ones that you properly inflate.

I had my OEM Goodyear Eagle RSAs for almost 11 years (61K) and all you get is a couple of months?

Get some T-rated tires rated for 80K and stop driving your car like you don't own a bolt in it, is my advice.

I think I got about 40K out of my Dunlop Supersports but I drive pretty hard and enjoy my corners. My better half has 70K on her Pirelli P3000 (Subaru Outback) and there's still 50% tread left.

Just goes to show that when you burn rubber.....you burn rubber.

BTW thumbs up on rotation and pressure

i think my kuhmo ecstas have been on my car for a good 8 years, but they're on the rears. they do have a few cracks in the side walls but tread is still great.

Tires I went with BF goodrich T/A pretty good 5,000 already and they look brand new. Yokohama AVID H4S also check out Potenza G009 Bridgestone.
I got a great deal on the T?A so went with them..goodluck..

Be advised that tires may last a long time thread-wise, but they inevitably harden. This causes poor wet weather performance which makes for uneasy drives in the rain & hazardous if they are all-season and used in the winter.

Bobo,
11 years on a set of tires is crazy, that is pushing the envelope quite a bit.

hobokenkid, which BFG T/As did you get? They make Traction T/A, Touring T/A, and a bunch of other T/As. I have the Traction T/As and love 'em, but have only had them for about 7 months/15,000 miles. They were reasonably priced and corner and stop well on wet, snow, ice, and dry.

Would also like to know how these are for traction and performance. I'm going to need another set of tires in the next few months I think, and while I've been happy w/ the proxes4, think I may try something else. shoot...why not?

my kumho supra 711's have lasted me three summer seasons and will prob be on their way out at the end of this one. figure like 35,000 miles... far longer than expected with the treadwear of IIRC 340.

whatever you do, do not buy dunlop SP sport a2's. i burned through a set in 7,000 miles. all in all i had six on my car in a year (thinking that it was an alignment problem or a defective batch of tires).

I know! However, there were no cracks I could notice and I was just getting down to 2/32nds.

I replaced the tires last September and got a great deal on a set of Yokohama Avid H4S. Had I not got the deal at the time, the tires would have been gone by November at any rate.

My choice is Yokohama Avid Touring 620AB.
You'll get tired of your car before you wear these babies.
Excellent wet traction also...
$60 at discount tire direct...and$25 mail in rebate.

Chiming in a little late, but I've seen Michelins go for a very long time with little treadwear, at least on a couple of trucks/vans. Don't know how they fare on passenger cars, but I'd imagine if you buy a decent set (expensive) that they'll last a long time.

But, eh, maybe they're not as sexy as some of the other tires...

Michelin makes both very hard/long lasting tires, and they make grippy / high performance tires. Naturally you can't have both, and Michelin is no exception.

I had a set of the Kumhp ASX's.. Great tire for the money.. Showed almost no signs of tread wear on the fronts after maybe 6k miles, but then again my alignment specs were off.. Traction wise my 2k2 17's would spin in 1st, but then again I had a torquey 3.5L.

I have a set of Kelly Springfield EVO-Z tires. They have a traction rating of 420 and they handle quite nicely. Better than the Toyo Proxes I had before.

http://www.kelly-springfield.com/auto/promo/evoz.html

According to the tire store manager (Tire Factory), they are made in the USA at a Goodyear plant. Same exact design as the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D2.

5) the ones you use after you've got your alignment, suspension, steering, and wheel bearings checked.

A badly worn tie rod ball joint and wheel bearing (both on the same side) ate one of my tires in a matter of 4k miles...
