Plugging directional tires

Ive read somewhere that you cannot plug these tires? for what reason i do not kno. I have Kumho Ecsta 712's and it has a nail in it. Im thinking about switching the tire to another spare that i have. Its a 235/40/18 size tire and a friend of mine said that he can take it to his work and have the techs patch it up. He said they sand it down and other stuff(not really sure). Id plug it myself but i cant get to the nail. Its right in the middle of my tread and its one of those skinny nails. Hence the reason im havin a friend do it for me.
10 bucks to patch it or should i just put my spare tire. both tires have about the same amount of tread on them.
Feedback is very appreciated, leaving outta state next week, wanna get this done.
Thanks
-Kelvin

haha movie was good.. i saw it when it came out. So good i had to buy it on dvd.
Hotpatch? is that what its called? as opposed to buying that long sticky worm plug at pepboys? So u think i should hotpatch it instead of using my spare tire?

Thats what i did, I picked up a nail at about 800miles.. f*ck*ng new tire.

I had my local wheel shop remove the tire from the wheel. They patched it from the inside of the tire. Its awsome cause i cant find where the wheel was patched anymore. Holds air like normal. Very happy with the result.
