Ford Explorer rims on a Maxima?

Ok guys... I am desperate... and I am willing to get flamed... but not too much...

I need new rims and tires, would 2005 Ford Explorer rims work well with a 2000 Maxima?

Here are the specs...
16X7, 5 LUG, 114.3MM, 44MM OFFSET

I can get a set of 4 for $50.

It would come down to the center bore size. If they are 66.2mm, they should work out ok, but why put Ford SUV wheels on your Maxima? Most likely they are really heavy.

Is the center bore size something that I can measure?

I need to replace my tires on Maxima, and I am looking to do it the most affordable way. I can't afford a full rim+tire combo, so its either sticking with my 15" tires, or getting dirt cheap used rims. I would love stock 16 or 17" rims, but I can't find any in the state.

$50 rims are tempting...

I found out that the center bore is a little over 70 mm, would that work?

The center bore is larger than the Maxima (66.1mm) you should get a hubcentric ring to make up the diff. I'm not sure you can get Explorer tires under the car???? what size are the tires.

I hope you are buying just the wheels.

It fits w/ rings. The center bore is 70.5 mm. You will need different lugs as the Explorer's thread pitch is different.

SUV wheels (any) on a Max are really not my cup of tea, but it's your ride. And that's just my opinion on looks. Don't get me started on their weight.

Should fit okay. SUV wheels? Well people here put Murano 18s on their maximas soo.............

Anyhoo. It's just the wheels. But factor in brand new tires and it's not that great of a deal. You will probably have $500+ after taxes in just tires. Well for anything decent you will.

Buying a set of 16s or 17s w/ GOOD tires is cheaper. Even in Honolulu, you should be able to find a deal.

Gabe (gdmaxse) has some older Explorer wheels on his 3rd gen....they don't look too bad, really.

I believe it is just the rims that is part of the deal.

I saw someone selling 225/55ZR 16 tires (BF Goodrich GForce) tires for $200 which I thought I could mount it on. (http://honolulu.craigslist.org/oah/pts/185710648.html)

Actually, these Ford rims don't look that bad... sort of your generic 5 spoke rims. Would it be bad if I ran it without the center cap?

BTW: I'm running 15" steelies right now, so anything would be an improvement...

Definately uncalled for. He lives in HI and might not have as many options as those on the mainland. And for $50, why not try them out at least and see how they look. There are a lot of people on a budget and if you can get something like these wheels for a really inexpensive price, why not? Does bashing this screen name make you feel better? Grow up

I doubt he'll get any SES codes from installing SUV wheels on his car.

1. Actually, Gabe's max looks pretty good with the Explorer rims. He actually got more complements than I did at the last autocross, and I was running Bronze 5Zigens....same wheels as several STIs and Evos...

2. Personal attacks on peoples screen names are Especially from people who are so un-creative that they just have to use the word "MAX" in their own screen names...how very cliche' on the org hell, "Maxdout" and "Maxdout00" were here before you were.....way to be creative.

I would think you wouldn't be thowing out such childish remarks, considering your age..

3. Yuckster is probably a reference to him being a funny guy...

4. Some would say that 2004 Maximas are yucky looking too Some people.....not trying to start an argument here.

Thanks for the support, Irish and SEmy2k2go...

Yes, in Hawaii, we don't have that many options... I would rather keep my Maxima looking as stock as possible, and I perfer not to go with aftermarket rims. Most of the aftermarket rims that are being sold here are expensive as heck, and are personally too "bling bling" for my tastes. Typical mail order options like Tire Rack are priced out of my reach, due to shipping costs. Right now, my money is tied up in getting my suspension sorted out (just bought Tokico HPs) and other small problems with my Maxima. I would love to buy a set of 17" SE rims, but no one seems to be selling them locally, and no one on the board is willing to ship them to Honolulu (I can't blame them...). I wish I lived on the East coast...

As for my screen name, it is a derivative of my first name, being a first generation Japanese. I generally shorten my name, since many people have problems pronouncing multi-syllable names. This screen name has been used on many other boards as well, and I am proud of both my name and my screen name as well.

Anyways, back to the discussion of tires… for now, I may pass on getting a rim/tire combo, and just replace stock 15” tires. Any opinions on the BFGoodrich Traction T/A?

those will fit, i use hub rings on mine and you dont need new lugs or anything. the bolt holes on mine were drilled slightly larger than the maxima but they center fine with stock lug nuts. i have autocrossed these wheels more than 10 times and havent had any problems with them.
