My rims got JACKED!!!!

Hey guys,

My rims got jacked today! They left the car on bricks. I have a 2000 maxima GLE - I went to the junk yard to get new rims and one guy wants to sell me the 18in 2004 maxima rims. Will they be a problem for my car? Are the rims too big? in terms of width and are the tire width ( 245 ) too big?

Thanks for all the help.

Rami

Damn thieves! I'm sorry you had this happen to you... Heard from your insurance yet? Yeah, the 18" 04 rims will fit, but the 245 size will rub. I just bought G35 18's (225/45/18 front, 245/45/18 rear) and the rears rub with weight or people over bumps. The ideal tire size would be 235/40/18 (0.4% speedo error). I'm planning to buy some 225/45/18 for the rear to keep the sizes consistent; I'm fairly sure this won't rub in the rear, as it doesn't in the front.

Hey guys

How bad is the rubbing and should i put the rims on?

What is a odd load? I originally had the 16in and chnged them to 17 - never had a problem.

Do you know anyone with the 18inch rims on there 200 maxima that I can speak too?????? that would be great....

Thanks
Rami

the wheels aren't the problem...it's the tires that come on the stock wheels that will rub...they are 245/45/18 and you need something like a 225/45/18...if the wheels come without tires, then get them and buy some 225/45/18 tires and there won't be any rubbing. I'm guessing an 'odd load' is when you have weight in the back of your car (whether it be cargo or people in the back seats)

First questions,

So if I remove the tires ( 245/45/18, can I put 225/45/18 on those same rims?

Second questions,

How does the car look with those rims?

Thanks

The 245's will definitely rub in the rear, as I have them on Infiniti 18x8's.

You should make a deal with the junk yard guy and see if you can try the rims out with the stock tires if they're on the rims (you still haven't confirmed if the rims have tires on them from the junk yard.)

If they rub give him the tires back and mount 225s on the rims which will fit.

Good Luck

I will try them out and see if they rub, and then I guess if they rub I will ask him to put 225 tires on there. It just sucks because I had BRAND NEW tires on my rims - 3 months old.

What the hell has Flushing become? I used to live there. Maybe I should move back and start a Maxima.org A-team.

The truth is that locks may give you some peace of mind but anyone can get sockets that grip and remove any lock and lug nut.

Your best bet is to get some ugly azz rims that nobody wants

I had 17'' titanium edition SE wheels originally, but they were curb damaged by the previous owner, so I found a wrecked 350Z and took his 17'' rims. When I took the Z wheels, I also took his locking lug nuts and the special socket for the lugs. I'm not so worried about somebody stealing my wheels, but I am just waiting for the day when I come outside to find my hood and bumper screwed up because somebody jacked my HID lights.

First of that sucks about ur rims but i got one question. Didnt you have wheel locks?? they cost like 20-30 bucks?
Second i run 245/40/18 all four rims plus im lowered and i have no rubbing issues even with the car loaded with four people.

I think wheel locks are the only way we can prevent this type of thing. The touch-alarms are too sensitive to poor weather and Harleys passing by.

Maybe two sets of wheel locks if you're really **** will help. However if somebody has their eyes on your rims and or tires they'll find a way steal them.

Such a crime I believe is only petty theft and thus thieves find it easy to make a quick half-grand or grand from stealing HIDs or rims to pay for their crack addictions. It would be nice if such crimes were catagorized with grand theft auto and their like. Thus, thieves would be less likely go after these items as the possible penalties would be too great.

I was born, raised and live in Canada and many will agree we don't have to worry about these issues as much.

Hey SilverGLE,

Are those 18's 7.5 or 8 inch depths? I'm glad to see a picture of something with similar rims that I'm interested in. Currecntly lookng at these:

I think the rubbing issues people are talking about all depend on your suspension set up you are running. If you are stock with suspension componets in decent shape the 245 will be no deal.

Well I just went to the junk yard and got 245/45/18 for my 2000 maxima. I DO NOT HAVE ANY RUBBING thank god. but man I do feel like **** - knowing that someone has my rims and brand new tires. It pisses me off to the bone. I am thinking of getting new tires in the winter 225/45/18 is there such a tire??????

225/45 will look like fken ballon man. Run a 235/40 atleast gives you nice stance plus better traction. The 225 are for old farts with minivans, lol

^ 225/45/18 is the stock front tire size on the G35 coupes. i've got it in the front of my max, and will soon have matching rear tires. True, 235/40 will through the speedo off less and look better (and the better traction). That's the size I'll be running when these tires wear out. Check my side profile sig pic for the difference between 225/45 up front and 245/45 in the rear.

You're luckly... I'll rub with anyone in the back, or if I'm carrying a load of stuff (college student, oh the fun).

I've got the genuine OEM 18x8. Those look good, but I'm very uncomfortable with the "quality" of repicas off ebay (or anywhere else). If you check the G35 sticky in the Tire/Wheel forum, someone bought the replicas and is very happy with them. Personally, I'd stick with OEM wheels... You can usually find a set without tires for $400-$500 off ebay. Lucky for me, I bought a set of 3 with tires, then 1 rim and 1 tire, all mounted for less than $600. But I just bought 2 used rears (225/45/18) for $90, and it'll cost $40 to get them mounted.
