17's or 18's

Ok I am looking at getting new wheels soon. I believe I just bent one of my 19's for a 2nd time different wheel then the first on my birthday. my question is should I go with a 17 or 18. I would like to strat autocross next year so having a 17 with with a nice sidewall would be nice. Or would I get the same effect with 18's. The weight differnce is only a pound comparing the 17 and 18. If I got a 17 could I run a 255/45-17 tire on a 17x8.5 wihout rubbing. Compared to stock wheels it's right on to keep speedometer the same and is only 1.18 inches wider. Plus having a BBK with 17's looks mean cause it fills the inside of the wheel.

17". Also, I would get 245/45/17 or even 235/45/17 if you plan to go to the track with these wheels/tires.

Yeah I looked and there aren't that many choices for 255's. With the 245's I can get the Bridgestone RE-01R's or the Falken 615's.

get some some 17x8's/35 offset for autocross...with 245/45/17 Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212's....good on the street, great on the course...

oh, and be sure to shave them for ultimate dry grip, unless you drive in rain alot

It's pretty hard to find a good autocross tire in 18" (and expensive)...

FTW

I was going to go with a 8.5's with 35 offset. I think those are the tires that a guy in other forum here is going to use next year switching from the 615's. He won the STX class here in his suby.

8.5's, even better

This is my second set of the Kooks...they're very good for street tire categories if that's what you're going to run, but I strongly suggest you get them shaved...my first set were not shaved and they realy got torn up. Second set (shaved) grip and wear much better.

from what i've heard, they are similar in grip and wear to the 615s, but are a bit better if you get a wet lot - plus they're cheaper IIRC...

Yep I am looking at the Enkei RPO3's. Where did you get yours from. That way I can look into getting them shaved too. This is going to be a winter purchase.
