I have a friend who runs them 215/45/17 they grip well dry and wet but noisy as hell; howls on highways.

I found it tolerable but you would definitely have to talk over the noise. I believe there are other alternatives out there in the same price range without nearly the same noise level (ie: Nankang NS1).

My friend with a 328i 5spd is running them in 235/40/18 on his 18x8's. He's had them for about a month now and they seem like decent tires, especially given their price. Supposedly, in the 240sx drifter world, the SS595 is the "secret" tire because it has a strong sidewall and excellent grip. Personally, I would spend the few extra bucks for a "name brand" tire like Kumho, but if you're short on cash they are probably a great alternative.

Where I work we sell them and they are the running joke around the shop. When ever someone hears another person say "im going to the track this weekend" the responce is "dont forget to put your 595's on, you wouldn't want to slide out and hit a wall or something" sarcastically of course. Save up another month and buy yourself a good tire like a Toyo P4 or a G-Force T/A. If you are short on cash and need a tire now buy that Hankook Ventus K-104, they are quiet and grip decent.

There are three brands you want to stear clear of at all costs and they are:
1) Federal
2) Maxxis
3) Nexen

Don't forget about Nankang, Sumitomo, and some others...

You know people said the same thing about Kumho and Hankook not that long ago. I'm not going to condem a tire until I have personally used it. I have a set of Sumitomo HRTZIIs on my street wheels for the Z (and MAX) they ride nice and perform ok up to 8/10s. They don't match the Kumho MXs I replaced, but they hit the right price point. Federal even offers a "R" compound version of the 595 and have a new "R" coming out. I looked for a set to test with, however their pricing was out of line... cheaper to get Victoracers than the 595Rs.

i had some 235/40/18 and they are crap tires that are loud and offer very little grip. they are compared to nankang and wanli.

upgrade to falken ziexs, you'll be glad.

If Falkens are an upgrade, then those tires must really suck. Either that or you just got your Falkens. I loved mine when they were new, but they quickly went downhill after about 10K mi.

to be completely honest, i didn't have the falkens for 10k miles, so maybe you're right.

my opinion on the federals still stands, though.

Interteresting as I have pm'd several owners of Ferderals on various sites and got decent replies on these tires. Can anyone give any feedback on Bridgestone Fusion HRi 225/50/17. I realize they are H rated but they are cheap, just curious how they may compare to the Federals, or should I just stick to the plan of Toyo Proxes 4? New here on the board just been reading but now have questions

I had them on my 325i in 225/40/18 and really enjoyed the grip, dry and wet. With an H&R/Bilstein setup it was very difficult to break the rear loose around a turn without some crazy maneuvers or sand. The noise was pretty bad but worth it, for the amount they cost the performance is more than worth it.
