Sport Edition KV5, Evo clone?

Well, like many folks I have one Evo 5 wheel that's out of round so I need a replacement, but just can't find one. I thought about replacing the wheels with Anthracite Axis Hiros, but they'd look small in 18" so I looked and found the Sport Edition KV5 which looks seriously freakin close to the evos, but they're only 136 bucks a wheel? Complete junk? Super heavy? Anyone know or seen them in person? Highway driving is killer on an vibrating wheel.

I'm gonna compare as best as I can, but the Evos were made for Tirerack by Millie and when Tirerack stopped ordering them, they weren't available. Discount Tire bought them through tirerack when I got mine. Is the "Sport Edition" just a tirerack branded thing? I may order one or two just to see if I can get some confirmation. Evos are 27lbs so I'll see what they weigh...

Decent price for the bandwagon boat anchors.

Is that the only BP they come in (5x114). We require 5x114.3

*edit. According to TR, they'll fit

Yeah, I saw them when I was looking for replacements. I've had my Evos since the month I got the car 5 years ago, but they've taken some abuse. I wanted new and lighter ones, but I really only need one wheel. I overlayed them on pictures of Evos and they match up perfectly. I contacted Tirerack, we'll see what they say.

Got a note back from Tirerack. The wheels are close, but not exactly the same so they recommend doing a whole axle if you switched them out. They will also be counter-pressure cast so they will be a bit lighter and stronger than the Evos. Thought folks would like to know. For 136 a piece, real hard to beat though in the looks for price range.

They didn't say how much lighter, but my guess is it won't be much. A shame really cause it's the looks on the Evos that make people want them, be nice if they came down enough in weight to help out the slowitudes.

I already placed my order for 18x8.0-35 offset, not bad for a total of $611.78 for all four wheels. My sale represenative is going to call me to let me know on the weight on each as soon as there in. The first batch is coming from overseas they should be in the U.S after March 13 and then from there shipping kicks in direct to my door.

23.5? Wow, that's a savings over the 27 lb Evos, 13%. Better not stagger the wheels ever, talk about some jacked up driving.

Would it make much difference if you had Evos in back and these up front, drivewise? Never had different weighted wheels on a car. I still need one/two wheels, maybe when I get new tires soon

Hey guys I just thought to let you know to BE CAREFUL when you buy from Tirerack.com. As I had mentioned earlier I was going to buy a set of Sport Editon KV5 replica of evo-5 18x8.0. I received my set of wheels on the end of July and mounted them on some new Bf Goodrich sport tires from Discountire near my home. I began to get vibration at speeds of 70-80 mph.I took them back to Discountire for another recheck wheel balance and no luck.I took my car for a wheel alignment at two different places and no luck. I then took it back to Discountire to remove the tires off the wheels so that we can check the wheel on the wheel hunter balancer without the tires.I was mad the 4 wheels were OUT OF ROUND.So I called Tirerack and told them whats up with that and they said that all wheels were to their spec that maybe it was my alignment so I had to send them proof of my alignment receipts and balance "TWICE". So after so many phone calls they finally decided to send me shipping packages so that I could send the wheels back to them"AUGUST'.First call I get they said that all 4 wheels were fine to their spec" I was mad" I told them to please recheck them so they did. Second call they said only 2 wheels were OUT OF ROUND. So they told me that they were going to send me back my 2 used good wheels according to them and 2 new replacement of the bad ones. After 1 MONTH of crap I finally received my wheels and guess "WHAT" when I open the boxes and took my wheels out the 2 new replacement wheels were a lighter color silver to the 2 used one I first purchased, the whole point was that the colors did not match.Yes I was pist off ....its the last week of "AUGUST" I called them up and I told them that the color does not completely match one pair is dark smoke silver color and the other is lighter silver color. First call #1 they ask me to send them pictures of all 4 wheels so I did. After 3 days second call #2 they then ask me to write down all the information thats on the back of the wheels so I did. After 4 days third call #3 "NOW" they wanted a picture of the back of the wheels and I said bull !@#$% do you think Im lying or what .Naw man I said you send me another shipping package so that I can send you the wheels back for the !@#$% second time and so that when you received them you can check for yourself PERIOD!Well Mr. Mendoza let me check with my technician and we'll call you back. Yes my fello friends at this point I am boiling mad and its "SEPTEMBER" still waiting for the !@#$% phone call........................Im tired of this !@#$%. DONT ORDER FROM THEM take my advice

i think this also says a lot about the quality of these wheels. between being out of round and finish, sounds like quality control is lacking.

Damn, VIP, when did you get boost??? I bet that S/C feels good...weren't you the guy with the "Shift_Honk all you want, I will Ccontinue to drive slow" tag line before?

Interesting to find this thread as I just noticed these wheels on Tirerack. At that price and light weight, that's an exceptional deal for a great looking wheel. If the casting process is truly better that would be great, but that's a little questionable based on gene_vq03's experience. And I find it a little hard to believe that a cheap cast wheel at 23.5lbs for 18" is going to be strong.

If anyone else has these rims, or any Sport Edition rims, please post your experiences and any balance/damage problems.

Can anyone confirm if these will fit over a BBK? The 17x8 35mm offset?

Lookin' hot!

Have you hit any hard bumps yet? Inspected for dents to the inside or outside lip of each rim?

17x8 with 35mm offset ought to fit over a typical BBK but it depends on the particular rim design, of course. I don't really know, but I bet they're similar to Evos. So do an Org search for "evos clear bbk" or something. Evos had 40mm offset though so these rims have 5mm extra clearance in theory.

I think both GoalieKeg and Kevlo911 needed 5mm spacers for their z32 BBK. I believe both of them were not running the bigger 13" Cobra rotors.

I almost bought a set of the Sport Editions today (my Evos are beat up. 1 bent badly, 2 more bent a little) and I wanted the same look, but we'll see. Those Evo center caps are real tough to get out, but I managed to get them out. Any other Sport Edition for and againsts?

upstatemax are those 19s ?

fitmentwise for z32's....... im going to take an educated yes and say it might clear but very very close. my ev-s with +45 required 5 mm spacers and the spokes straight point out from the center unlike the evo5's

Well, on my way home this morning from the Doctors office I hit a big chunk of rock right in the road after a turn, I tried to avoid it but I did not have time and ran right over it with my front drivers.

I hit it pretty hard and the rim seems to be *OK*, just the chip in the lip but the tire is toast.

Less than 1K miles on each.
