Not really. There are many other sites w/ better prices.

Don't go cheap on tires. They are the only thing keeping your car on the road!

All right, please name me another site that has a wider variety and sizes of tires, lower prices on those in stock, and lower shipping charges?

I've seen a few sites that have a handful of popular brands that are a few bucks cheaper...but, once you factor in the shipping charges, the price differential suddenly does not look so good.

If you are going to compare TireRack's prices to other stores, the fair thing to do is compare the total costs (inc. shipping), tire for tire. Overall, TireRack is less, and even if I had to spend an extra $10-20 bucks for four tires, vis-a-vis another store, I would because i've dealt with them many times before, and have been very satisfied.

RE: Cheap tires.

There is a BIG difference between getting a good value and wasting good money. Case in point. Michelins are very expensive, and the number of them that are good enough to justify their cost can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

Tires like General's Exclaim UHP are at the low end of the cost chart but at the top of the performance charts, and are a fraction of the cost of a comparable Michelin.

Kumho's and Sumihito's are also excellent tires that are priced at the lower end of the cost spectrum.

Sure, there are better tires than Fuzions, but they are nowhere near their prices.

I think that we should refer to them as "inexpensive" rather than "cheap," because of how loaded a word it is.

Most of the times I buy new tires off ebay. Including shipping, they are still far less expensive than any online retailers. With the money I save, I use it to mount the tires. I don't wait until the last minute to buy tires though. I start looking ahead of time and I know which tires I want on my car.

If I'm in need of tires asap, I just walk into my local Discount Tire and tell them about other store prices (including online). Most of the time, they will match it or beat it.

Yes, eBay does have good prices. The main problem, however, is that they are more limited in the variety of tires offered.

There's another thread on this, but I'm about to buy some General Exclaim UHP in 235/40/18. Tirerack wants $103/each plus $44.32 shipped for a total of $456.32. Tread Depot has them for $100/each plus $9.05 each shipped. Total of $436.20.

I haven't placed my order yet (will within 2 days), but I did find some UHP's new off a seller on ebay and bought a pair for $200 shipped. Unless I find some other cheap ones on ebay, I'm buying my other pair from Tread Depot.
