Winter tires for an 02

I am putting new winters on my GXE stock 215/55-16. What size are you running? If I use 215/60-16 do you thing I will notice and ill effects from the ABS? Do you get excessive hydroplaning in slush from the 215 tire width? Would I be better off going with a 205/60-16? I would kind of like the little bit of extra ground clearance from the 215/60-16.

The narrower the better for driving in the snow. I'm running 225-60-16 snows and don't have any problems. They are not the best size for snows but I got them for free.

The 215/60-16 are going to throw your speedo off a fair bit. I am running 205/60-16 on my 2K2 with no problems. I would expect that the 205/60-16 tires may be quite a bit cheaper too. Be advised the load rating on the 205/60-16 is slightly lower than the stock tires.

hey, i use the stock size for my winter tires and I have had no problems... In my opinion, if the weather is really bad I just adjust my driving habits, especially my speed. Sure a proper type/size tire has great input on keeping your car where you want it to go, if you keep your speed in check.

PS: I imagine the weather in Torbay, NL can get much worse than here (MTL).

We just purchased a set of WS60s for our 2002 SE. The dealer had a Bridgestone conversion chart. We purcased 4 steel wheels, I believe we are running 195 16s. Our goal is ultimate Ice and snow performance as we live at about 1300 feet and got about 6 feet of snow last year.
