wheel spacers and alignment

I'm getting close to taking my car in for the 60k maintenance. My question is, should I put my new wheel spacers on before or after the work? Does the addition of the wheel spacers affect the wheel alignment at all?

Unless you installed them incorrectly, or have poor quality spacers, you should be fine.

Well it CAN effect the alignment, but its so minor I wouldn't worry about it at all...

If you can put them on, otherwise don't worry about it...

Affect > effect in this case. Grammar **** checking in.

I’m bored. Explain how it will affect the alignment if they are quality spacers(H&R)?

Hehe, grammar troll!!!!

Well I suppose a wider track from the spacers may effect (right? ) the angle at which the force is being applied on the suspension Contact me in a quarter, I am taking Statics (Mechanical Engineer) next quarter

The extra spindle-center of wheel arm length will put more of a torque on the spindle and will try to add some extra negative camber. However the AFFECT will be negligable.

As a follow up, are there any practical disadvantages to leaving the spacers on for the alignment? Such as the dealer freaking out about it for no good reason? I've never brought a "modded" car in for maintenance at a dealership before.

Fast1, enjoy statics. I remember everyone hyping up how hard that class was supposed to be. Once you get into junior and senior level M.E. classes, you'll look back and statics will have seemed like an elective!

If they freak out because of a piece of metal then you need to go to another alignment shop

Statics is the first "hard" class of many for me, dynamics should be even funner hehe...

Looking forward to Cal Poly raping me in the future, thats life I guess...Good luck!

Statics is fun but dynamics is even more of a kick in the pants, or so I have heard. As an EE I'm not required to take either.

Also there are shops that will not touch your car if you have spacers on it. The way they see it, if something happens because of the spacers they will get blamed.

This is what I was looking for. Good to know.

Don't see where I docked spacers or said they would actually effect the alignment...

Neh I am on Vacation right now lol..besides I am fairly good at time management, although it seems like if I spend a lot of time here, I really just jump on a few minutes at a time during school

Of course next quarter will be very different, I probably will visit the ORG once or twice a week

Yeah, IDK if its just Cal Poly, but apparently I have to take two dynamics courses Which is understandable...

I remember my friend who is a senior (CE) told me that ME is the hardest major at Poly. I was like crap :-(

EE isn't a walk in the park either, good luck!

Not to mention engineers are quasi-"dime a dozen" and have severe salary ceilings unless you make it into management.

Start thinking about grad school/MBA/law degree

I just finished the calculus series, I have finished Chem, finished physics, so basically I am done with the pre-Reqs for the most part... wasn't easy though

Thats why I will probably to the 4+1, which is more like 5+2 to get my masters in ME

From what I have heard everywhere I've gone, EE is the more difficult major... maybe that's just at my school.

I finished calc, chem and physics last year and am starting do delve deep into the core classes... this **** is crazy awesome.

They are neck and neck, probably does depend on the school...
