General Exclaim UHP vs. Sumitomo HTZ ZII

Im looking for tires to go on my 17x7 alloys with 35mm offset.

Probably 235-45-17 because they are so interchangeable with other rims i would be gettin in the future, but i could also go with 215-50-17 or 225-50-17.
Still want 235-45-17 tho

These are my requirements:

Must be under $100 a piece
Must be a SUMMER tire
Must have good-excellent reviews online

Wet Traction and Treadwear are more important to me than Handling (stiffness) or Road Noise.

So Ive looked on discounttiredirect.com and havent found much that was reviewed well/cheap to buy.
Tire Rack has a few well reviewed tires in my price range, and the one that really stood out was the GENERAL EXCLAIM UHP.

They are like $83 a piece and have excellent reveiws from everyone. I think out of 100+ reviews, only one was bad, and it was in reference to treadwear.
I mean, i really couldnt believe the amount of postive reviews on these tires. even with tires that cost $300, there werent as many.

I call up TireRack to place an order and find out that the General Exclaim UHP is going to be on backorder for 3 months. I search the rest of the internet, all over the other online tire sites, and the ones that have them are also backordered. I call Generals Corporate facility and ask about how long its going to be before they can be sent to vendors again, and they say about 6-8 weeks.

So im fickle and impatient and want some GODDAMN tires. especially cuz the bigass march 16th maxima meet is coming up and im still ridin dirty on the 15 inch sawblades

I found these. they look cool and my experience with Sumitomo in the past has been positive.

However the reviews on them are GOOD but not great. a lot of complaints about roadnoise and treadwear. not to mention wet traction.
They are only $77 a piece.

So i debating whether i should get these second rate tires NOW vs wait three months for the far better deal.
Also, by waiting, i wouldnt be able to use my 17 inch alloys. They are sitting on my porch right now collecting dust and will stay there till i get some tires to slap on em.

now another thing is that im not planning on keeping these alloys for very long - which is one of the reasons i wanted to get 235-45-17s, so i could just swap em onto a new set of wheels whenever i get them.

so, buy now for my 17 alloys? or wait?
or just sell the alloys, go to the meet with 15s and wait till i can get everything at once (new wheels + tires)?

or keep the 17 alloys and wait for the generals?

or just buy 215-50-17s?

anyone got any experience with the sumitomo HTZ ZII ?
hows the wet traction?

feel free to veer off topic here. there are a lot of ways i could go with this.

Good thing i got my exclaims bout a month ago from tirerack. Can't you just go to a local shop? They had my tires at the shop i had them mounted at. I just decided to order from tirerack for the heck of it.

tire choices

yeah its a tough one, I am unable to decide either.
I have Falken Zeix 512 but they are all season, they are good, and they have lastest, but all season, and the new is the 912.
I am looking at the Kumho Ecsta SPT, but my firend, whom has a WRX poo-pooed the Kumhos. I have Victoracers for my Mr2 and I like them, and was all set to get them, but he knocked them, and now I am not sure.
I had Sumitomo HTR+ for all seasons, the were decent, but it was a while ago, and I certainly do not have sparkling reviews for them, they were good. So I am not ready to jump to HTRZ III just yet, but maybe. I think I want to try a summer and not all season, so I am going to skip the Falkens.
The Yoko S.drives look decent as well, but at about $125, I should really look at the others.
I didnt really like the user reviews of the Generals, but I will take another look at them.

Thanks,

Jim

I have the General Exclaims...they're awesome great in wet, and dry. For some reason I noticed off the bat when I switched to Goodyear Eagle F1 tires that the UHP helped so much with traction.

Good price, good tires what more can you ask for?

generals are great tires, they're so cheap too. i have them and love them, they last long as well... only complaint i heard from a friend is they're loud, but not really. they do have a soft sidewall as well, but that's not my speculation, someone elses. great tires for the money

generals are the only tires I have ever bought (only bought tires once) so I really dont have anything to compare them to but they are good. They handle good, i drove them in the winter even tho they are a summer tire . And i found this out after i bought them, they are one of the lighter tires you can buy.
