Hankook Ventus RS2 Z212 review

Well i thought id post up my review of these tires. I finally took off my snows. Sick of driving with them on.

So i got these tires, in 235/45/17 for about 800CAD. Good price compared to other tires in its class. I mounted and balanced them myself, so 800 was all said n done.

So heres the review:

Dry traction:

I love these tires. They grip like no other tire i have had before. I can honestly say right now i have reached the limit of my suspension/chassis. Previously i had hit the limit of my tires, i was understeering because my tires couldnt handle it. My current setup of Tokico HP/Eibach/FSTB/RSB, the tires wont break loose as hard as i can throw this car into corners, but the chassis flexes like a wet noodle. Previously i had Michelin Pilot Spots (A/S too), and before that dunlop SP9000's. Those tires were good, but none of them compared to these tires. Dry grip is amazing, seriously best handling mod is these tires. Havent even been able to squeal these tires around a corner yet, and ive taken some sharp corners at well over legal speed limits (50kmh zone..corner at 100kmh). My freind in his jetta GLI has a hard time keeping up. Braking is also very good, i can lock up the wheels obviously, but they grab hard. My pilot sports would lock up pretty fast before i got rid of them, given they were ageing. Off the line traction is good too, i dont get any spin in first anymore, but wheel hop is VERY apparent now, but thats a given, stiff sidewall, lower profile tire will do that.

Wet Traction:

Wet traction is pretty decent. Its nothing compared to the dry traction, but its good though. My Pilot sports A/S had better off the line traction then these, but they were twice the price per tire. Handling in the wet is what you would expect, nothing insane, wet traction is still better then my SP9000's though. Braking is alright, they will lock up and to no surprise i expect it.

Bottom line:

I love these tires, there is quite a bit of road noise, considering my Pilot Sports were almost silent, these make less road noise then my snow tires did, but still make quite a bit of noise. For those of you who have had Yokohama AVS ES100, these make much less noise then those do. These tires do not like cold weather, the grip diminishes fast when the temperatures are south of 5C. They like to be warm, so drive hard

My freind had RT-615's on his SVT focus (15x7 with 205/50/15). He loved those, but he said going through the amount of tires he did it was killing his pocket book. He tried the RS2 Z212 in the same size and was very impressed with them. He did not have them shaved or anything, ran them stock size and said although the RT615's had stiffer sidewalls, the break away point was pretty close to the same, except the RS2's with the softer sidewall, you may think your at the limit, but you arent really even close. He said you gotta learn to push them just till you feel them break then knock it down a notch.

He auto-x's all the time, and is pretty damn good. He said he will be using these over the RT615's for street and auto-x when hes not on R compounds. (V710 Victoracers). He almost is very happy with the wet traction compared to the RT615's which he said were pretty dangerous in rainy weather lol.

Overall id recommend them to anyone whos on a budget but wants ***** out dry performance!

Just thought id update this, now that ive had the tires for a year now, put about 27K miles on them. They are showing wear, id say about 60% on the fronts while 70% on the rear. Camber wear is present, but thats my suspension issue.

Anyways, i love how these tires handle, still sidewalls, incredible in the dry, in the wet, not so much, especially as they wore. My biggest gripe about them is road noise. Now that they have worn down a fair amount, they are very noisy, FWIW, my Blizzack WS-60's were significantly quieter, and normally snow tires are noisier..

They arent good over bumps either, but thats kinda expected of a stiff sidewall tire. Cold weather traction is pretty decent too, once the temperature drops below 7-8C you notice quite the drop in traction and the ride gets stiff. The best thing about these tires, is the hotter you can get em, the better they perform, back in my NA days, i use to dump it at 6K rpm, spin pretty much most of 1st, you could feel them hook, because if i did that, i could barely chirp second

Anyways for any of you guys putting down some good numbers, or for someone who wants a good summer tire at a reasonable price, id definately recommend these!
