Shop can't unmount Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tire.... HELP!

So I'm finally almost getting my gf's 3rd gen passed for inspection but the last thing they had to do was remove 1 tire and replace it with a new one I bought but they can't get the friggin thing off. They took it to the Michelin tire shop down the street. No luck. Then they took it to Pep Boys who they said had this really high tech machine that couldn't get it off either. Where the hell can I take this thing to get it unmounted? Everyone at every shop has tried with no luck. The tire is just too stiff they said. The only other option would be to cut it off but they'll probably charge me a good chunk of change for that.

Anyone got ideas??

Discount tire?

A tire that's too stiff? They must really suck...there has to be a shop around that installs tires for 22' or 24's

I was thinking that myself but come on 3 differen't shops?? Has to be something with this f'in tire (looks like a drag radial) that's causing the difficulty. Are these installed at specialty performance shops or somethin?

yeah the bridgestone potenza are a stiff tire try mounting the potenza re760 sports.I happen to work for bridgestone/firestone in bensalem. what size rim and tire is it,do you know if it a reverse mounted or dismount rim.meaning they have to flip the rim over then break the bead loose.how old is the tire.cutting the tire would'nt be safe at all mess around and damage your rim.Not to mention the belts in the tire.I just know from experience it takes a lot time, patience, finese, bout two packs of smokes and a stiff shot (90 proof and above) for when you get done.Plus alot of these places dont wanna pay for a damage custom rim.

Hey Thanks for the info man. They actually just threw the rim/tire on the back and passed me but I definitely need to find a place that can do this. How much would you charge at your place? They are 225/45/17 tire and I'm not sure how old they are but they are pretty worn but then again they are a really low treadwear to begin with.

let me know if I can come by sometime.

Thanks,
Alex

The RE070 is the OE STI tire. I would try the local Subaru dealer or one of the high line dealers. Someone that can handle runflats or race tires should be able to get them off.

High performance bridgestone tires are *****ES to dismount/mount, im an apprentice, and unfortunately i get 90% of the tire mounts/dismounts at work, the worst is the re050s on the 350, 265/35/19 is extremely difficult, that and the 350z 225/45/18, the worst was a prelude with proxes t1-s in 215/35/18...the other tech damaged one of the rims trying to get it off lol.
