Might seem stupid to some of you guys but can i put the tires on my rims myself and then just bring them to be balanced? Is there anything special done during mounting that i couldn't do with the right tools?

As long as i put them on hte right direction i should be fine right?

I wanna get some Z wheels and the prices for mount 17+ rims is ridiculous ($50-$90 per tire) but Sears about 10 miles a way will do it for $25 a tire.

unless you are the hulk, or comparable in strength, its not gonna happen.

I got my 235/40/18s mounted for 70 bucks total including hunter road force balancing (awesome), could have done it for like 40 if i wanted a regular balance

Sears was the most expensive place I went to (like 30 bucks a tire) I laughed in their face

good luck! we have a couple changers and 2 balancers at the shop, trust me they do miracles! If you where here in San Diego I will mount them for you.

i have found that i can actually mount with some tire irons, soap water, rim guard and muscle. BUT i run the risk of scrapping the rims which i know for a fact i will do if i do it myself. ill just shop around til i find a descent price.

Hm... most tire shops do mount+balance as a combo ranging from $7-15 per tire. You'll maybe save a few money and get hurt in the process?

 

It's just not a good idea to try it out unless you know what you're doing. You need to

Get both beads across the lip
Pop the bead (easier said than done for a first timer)
Then balance, good luck doing that yourself and if you don't, have fun vibrating down the highway.

Just get it done at a shop. If you know someone who is good at it and commonly does aftermarket rims, see if they can hook you up. Otherwise, get a good shop to do it.

 

Shop around... $50-90/per tire is ridiculous. Check for authorized installers on TireRack and call for a quote. Mount and balance should run you in the range of $50-80 for all 4 tires.

 

See thats the thing, I've been calling and checking authorized installers in my area AND just tire shops i've used before for regular tire issues.

And, I said I do not want to balance them myself only mount them. Harbor Freight has a tire mounting machine for $50 but I guarantee i will damage my rim. I'm gonna shop around til I find a decent price. Everyone I call says it cost so much cuz they have to take there time and make sure they don't damage the rim but I think thats a bit price

 

Just suck it up and pay a pro to do it for you. If you're worried about scratching the wheels and try to do it yourself, you're

1. never going to get it done.
2. scratch the hell out of the wheels and be back at square one looking for someone to do the wheels without fubaring them.
