Rim Question
Rim Question
I am looking into a set of Helo HE834's. While poking around online to try to find some examples of these rims, it looks like the rim depth changes.
For example: http://adaptivestrategies.com/helo-mustang.jpg
In that image, the front rims are nice and deep while the read rims barely have a lip at all.
Here is another image that has those rims set at the same depth.

So my question is, what determins how deep the rim would be? I like the look of the front rim on the Mustang, and I dont want to end up with something that barely has a lip at all.
I was told the tires on my max would be 245-35-r20 if that helps.

Offset, width, spoke design (disk type)...
So for that tire size like that, you can go as wide as 9.5 all around with minor fender mods (pretty much required to roll your fender). Keep in mind this is for a 4th gen. 5th gens have a tiny bit more room, and 6th gens I honestly have no idea...
Offset: You want the lowest offset without poking the wheel too far. Generally you want something like +35 for the above wheel widths. Lower the offset, the bigger the lip..
Spoke design. Low disk designs have less brake clearance but more lip. High disk are the opposite. If you have the option, for lip go low disk. But you always run the risk of not clearing brakes (especially with BBK) so be aware of that...
My suggestion is go out and measure. From hub to outer fender and use the stickys to find the ideal wheel size. Then look for a wheel that fits your needs....
Example: My wheels are 18 x 9.5 +35 all around with 245/40 all around. Wheels are low disk, so my front brake clearance (stock brakes) is about 1/4 inch to the caliper. But, I have a 3.5 inch lip. I can't fit BBK, I would need about a 10-15mm spacer and I am already poking 12mm past the fender in the front...Be aware that the front is usually offset by 1/2 inch outward!
