Its been done before, just depends on the offset, and if your fenders are rolled or not.

i just put 255's last week on my 20's. fits great however my rims are no where near 9.5 inches wide. i believe mine are 7.5 or 8. they look like a stock bmw tires now. how they wrap completely around the lip to protect it. thats as best as i can describe them at least lol. they were an upgrade from 225's those looked like a drifter car where the lip pokes out like half an inch. i hated that.

I ran 255 width on my 18x9.5 38 offset and no rubbing but i wasnt dropped too low (2gap)

but when i dropped real low and ran G35C 18x8 with 245 i rubbed bad (no rolled fenders) so i had to go down to 225

you should be fine with 255 in the rear. if you rub, well just roll the fenders. easy job.

Mr****s is right, 255 on the rear should be ok, i had 245 on my 4th gen before until the wheels got bent and it didnt rub. 255 is not a big difference from 245

To the OP: Thanks for asking about 255's. I was wanting to know about 255's also. I run Fusion HRi's on my Altima and are damned good tires, and want to run Fusions on my '01 Max and saw 255 50 R17's offered. How much wider would these be compared to the stock 225's, and from looking at www.TheFusionZone, the recommended wheel width is 7"-9". So these should fit the wheel, but will there be any issues with rubbing? BTW, the car is stock for the moment, but am considering dropping the front end about an inch.

i wouldn't be happy putting 255s on anything less than a 8.5 wide wheel.

245s actually fit a 8.5 wheel well... on a 7 inch wide wheel i wouldnt run over a 225

255/??/19... that will affect the overall diameter of the wheel... 255 is jus the width and the middle number is the sidewall length (percentage of the width) so with 255/35/19... the sidewall will be 35% of 255mm = 89.25mm putting you overall wheel diameter ( rim + sidewall ) to 19 inches + 3.5 inches=22.5 (or close) total diameter... width and offset is jus one part of rubbing issuses

...except there's tire on both sides of the rim.

I wouldnt go with anything less than 8 inch width. You will not like how it handles otherwise, you will get too much sidewall flex. It will also increase the slip angle of the tire, translating into a "mushy" understeer feel.

Black, thats what DJSarge was saying basically giving an overall diameter (like they do with flotation tires for off road and utility tires ie 31cmx 10.5cmx 15)

no, what he was saying was:

(tire width x profile) + rim diameter = overall diameter

when in fact the equation is:

2(tire width x profile) + rim diameter = overall diameter

which is why his overall diameter came up wrong by ~3.5".

sidewall height must be doubled to determine overall diameter because measuring from the ground up you will cross tire twice.

I also have 255/40's on the back of my Anniversarys, but it's weird they rubbed badly with 245/45's, hmm...
