Are these tires worth it?

Was at walmart today and saw that they had tires on the clearance rack. the tires are Douglas Performance GTD-H 245/45-17. They were 50 bucks a piece. I need new tires and just got hours cut at work. So will these be decent? Thanks for your coments.

A quick google search lead me to some horror stories about this brand so I'd say stay away from them. Remember they're on the clearance rack for a reason... no one would buy them! Or they are very old look at the numbers on the side the first two numbers are the week and the second two are the year they were made ie. 0106 would be the Jan 1-7 2006, stay away from tires that are more than 3 years old, it is well know that after 6 years tires turn to junk and are very unstable.

ok. the tires were $145 a piece. the date on the tires are 5 2007. They have been reducing the price on these at the store here for a while. I dont drive hard. Will they be ok?

If you're gonna spend $145 each go with a reputable brand try the Falken Ziex 912 (great tires w/ awsome reviews) they're cheaper and a much better tire, I paid $107 for 225/45/18s at Sears, they price matched tireeasy.coms price.

the tire were originally $145, Then three weeks ago they were $90, a week ago they were $75 and today they were $50. I think they are cleaning out inventory, because they are completely remodeling the store.

well... $200 for a set of brand new tires beat rolling on bald tires. The only concern about buying none big name brand is the quality. For example, they MIGHT make a lot of road noise, bad tread wear, crappy dry/wet grip, likeliness to hydroplane, etc. But since your wallet is kinda tight and you dont push your car, then just give it a try for $200.
I personally wouldn't cheap out on tires. I mean... at least get something with many good reviews.

Douglas Tires is under Kelly Springfield Tires which is owned by Goodyear Tires.

They are a cheap, yet decent quality tire. For that price, $45 a piece, in my opinion, I'd jump on it.

It took me forever to find a decent priced set of 245-45-17's. Just finally got a set of Firestone Firehawk GTz's (W-rated) for $70 a tire last week becuz regional mgr is a friend and gave me a discount.

Going on a set of Stern ST-8's 17x8.5 :-)

Wrong answer. Kumho tires suck *****. 20K miles and they're crap. PepBoys buy 3 get 1 free "special" was a ploy to unload their crap Kumhos on people that thought they were getting a killer deal, but just had to buy tires again 18 months later. I know many others will brag and attest to their quality, my opinion is only based on personal experience.

As far as the Douglas tires, grab 'em up. I ran them on my Altima, no problems at all. Even if you get the mileage out of them that is warranted, they were well worth $200 for 4. Post pics if you decide to get them. I have considered going with a 245/45R17 also but wasn't dure what they would look like installed.

I got a set of Falken ZE-912s at Sears during a buy 3, get 1 free sale. Great tire, better grip in cloverleafs than the Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 tires I had and are a LOT quieter.

Thanks for posting up pics of the tires, they look good. Are your wheels the same specs as OEM? I'm guessing they're damn close.

They are close. I used this tire calculator to check the size. http://www.wheelsmaster.com/rt_specs.jsp These tires are 1.1 inches wider than stock. has .3 inch higher side wall. check it out. it pretty good. no rubbing issues either. and the rims have 45mm offset.
