Hey guys. I hope someone can help me out. I bought 2009 Maxima wheels and tires to put on my car that came with their own TPMS's but my low pressure light ( it looks like a butt really LOL) (!) <---that's the light, anyway, I need to know if there is a way to get the light off without going to the dealership or changing the sensors all together. It was a good find to find them mounted balanced and with sensors already so I'd hate to spend money to have them dismounted to put in my stock ones. It would really defeat the purpose. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

 

OK - I didn't even stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, but here is my take. First - check your pressures with a GOOD gauge. When I took our Fronty in with the light on, I was sure the light was in error - but it turned out one tire actually was low. All it takes is about three pounds to trip the light.

If that doesn't get it - you may have to go the dealer and have the sensors registered with your car's computer. Not sure of the process, but it sometimes has to be done - even if the sensors are the correct manufacturer.

 

Dont hold me to this, but i read somwehere, possible here a few months back. Someone had a similiar problem and heard that firestone has a unit (not sure what it is) that reregistes the TPMS. You would think this is a dealer item, but aftermarket TPMS's are sold on the regular at car shops, so i believe this unit by firestone to be true. Call them. dosent hurt. Let us know what they say. Hey guys. Thanks for your responses so far. I was away for 2 days and just got back. I checked the pressures right after I put them on and they were up around 44 psi. Way too high so I adjusted them to 35. But still have the light. I've read on a few forums and around the internet that there is a way to reprogram them but you can only have 1 set programmed per car which means if I want to put my original wheels back on I have to have them programmed again! And the cost is about $50-$150 depending on where you go. My question is though,,,, will the light come on if the tires are overflated as well? I haven't seen anyone comment on that. I thought for sure that lowering the pressure to normal would have fixed the problem because when I restarted the car the low pressure indicator was flashing first and I thought it would shut off by itself. That's what happens when I put the stock original tires back on. It flashes for a few minutes and then the light goes out. I was hoping for that with the new wheels. Happy to hear more suggestions. Thanks guys. I'm just waiting for someone to come out with the "trick" around having to get them done by the dealer or shop.

 

BTW, here is a pic of the wheels I have the problem with. I just installed the rear wing as well last night.

 

putting more air in the tire will not trip the tpms, its when it goes below 35psi is when it the light comes on. I would not pay over 50 to get the reflash done. Try bidestone or other tire place, they have a machine they point to each tire and its reflashes. Good luck. keep us posted

 

DTC!!! We have the tools it can be done try any of our locations. usually with our customers its free. Just like any electronics they is a possibility of it failing.

 

I haven't had a chance to get them done yet but when I do I'll let you guys know. Thanks for your input guys!

 

I just got the 09 wheels on my max and I don't care if the tpms sensors work, I just don't want the light on. What I ended up doing is putting the TPMS in the spare so they register with the computer. This way I didn't have to swap any sensors or ever have to worry about them if I change wheels again. Also, TPMS sensors don't last forever. They will be less likely to fail causing the light to come on in a spare in the trunk than on a spinning wheel.

 

1. Good luck having someone else "point a machine" to those Nissan TPMS sensors. Those sensors can ONLY be reprogrammed using the Consult tool. There's some shops that can do it with a TPMS tool [usually Bartec or Ateq].

2. You can program more than 1 set of TPMS sensors.

3. There is no "trick" to get around it.

 

1. So what valves are you using to fit the wheels?

2. Which set of TPMS did you put in the spare?

3. Nothing lasts forever; that's why it's a replaceable unit. Of course a set of sensors would be less likely to fail when they're not exposed to the elements.

 

So you mean to tell me you only put 1 sensor in the spare? What about the other 3? I've heard of putting all 4 in a pressurized bag or tank and throwing that in the trunk and the light goes out. But with only 1 in the spare the light would come on because it's not reading the other 3. I understand they may go bad in time. Doesn't everything basically? I still have my stock 16 inch wheels with sensors so I don't want to waste the money to pull them out of them to have to put them back in later.

 

I wasn't sure if you could have more than 1 set of TMPS's assigned to one car. I read in a few websites that only 1 per car. I guess it depends on the make.

And eventually someone will come out with a "trick" They ALWAYS do. There is a way around everything. Just have to find the right guy to come up with it. :-P

 

Just quit being cheap and get the damn TPMS sensors reprogrammed.

I had two sets of TPMS programmed to my Titan.

Good luck of "getting around" the TPMS. The TPMS computer is tagged to the ECU.

 

I put all four of the original sensors in the spare. I labeled them so I know which came from each wheel in case I ever need to put them back. The light stays off and I just don't have any tpms in the tires. I've had the 09 wheels on my 07 for three days and already have gotten quite a few compliments on how they look.

 

OK, my question is though, what happens if you have a flat? Now you have 4 sensors rolling around in the tire? Are they secured in there or just laying loose inside? If they are loose and you have to use it they are gonna get damaged banging around the inside of the spare tire. No?
