*Updated 3/29/10* Continental ExtremeContact DWS 215 55 17

Hey guys and dolls

Thought I'd post initial thoughts about this tire. Some background:

5.5 Gen GLE
Stock Tires (215 55 17) on OE rim
Stock suspension
140K Original miles

Previously had:
OEM Turanzas (aka Craptenzas)
Toyo Proxes TPT4 (V rated)
Yokohama Avid V4s (most recent)

Got the Continental's mounted & balanced today. Ride seems much better than the Yokos (could also be a function of having 10/32nds of tread instead of 2/32nds!)...

Couple of unique things about this tire:

Non-directional asymmetrical tread pattern (can do criss-cross rotation)
Very light tire ~21 lbs a piece vs ~26+ lbs before
Softer sidewall
W speed rating

All in all, too early to give good on the road feedback, but did a ton of research before going with these... If anyone's looking into picking up a set and has questions, fire away..

Cheers,

AK

**Update 3/29/10**

I've done ~2K miles on this set so far... Best tire choice I've made to date. Turn in is greatly improved, ride is smoother and quieter, and grip in dry+wet is outstanding! Really confidence inspiring in less than ideal conditions.

Cheers!

I'm saying so far it's a great tire that's been very well reviewed across the board. Benefits are reduced rotating mass, increased potential for tire longevity due to more rotation options, and a higher speed rating (moot).

It's all good timwdv... You guys get any snow up there in SC?

I can say these tires are wickedly good in the snow... We got our first few inches today, and didn't lose grip at all through slush or snow...even at foolish speeds on the highway...Braking is also strong.. All around a great all weather confidence inspiring tire...

Yeah I got these 2 days ago in 245-45-18.
At 24lbs, I think it is the lightest tires in this size.
So far excellent grip in the slushy snow. Did not get a chance
to take it onto the highway yet. The only thing you need to
do is making sure that the word "OUTSIDE" on the sidewall is
indeed outside. My previous tires were Yokohama AVID W4S.
They weren't that great. Tread life sucks and horrible in the snow.

Same here, but with the stock size. 225/50/17 I think. We had some bad storms and they drove well through them.
