Hey guys, first off let me say it's good to be part of this forum finally. I have owned my Maxima for a year now and am just starting to get the itch to mod it a little.

Anyway, it's an '04 Maxima SE and like everyone else, I'm sick of the front facing the sky. I would also like to put on some different wheels, but I'm concerned there may be some rubbing.

I want to get Progress springs, then go from the stock 18 inch wheels to a set of Privat Akzent's. The problem I see, that may or may not even exist, is that the stock wheels are 7.5" with a 40mm offset, while the Privats are an 8.5" wheel with a 30mm offset. Using an offset calculator, it looks like there should be a 23mm difference outward with the new wheels (I think).

It's easy enough to calculate where the wheel will end up with the stock ride height, but I'm having trouble envisioning it on a 1.75" inch lower after the Progress springs.

Anyone who has gone a similar route to this- does it work? Do you notice the fender chewing up tires at all?

It will all depend in the tire size you will be using, in my case I have a 4th gen running 18x8.5 et16 with 225/40R18 and I am way lower than you and all I have to do was rolle the fenders, so as long as you stay in the 225-235 tires am sure you will be fine...

 

Wow, 225/40 on 18x8.5 wheels?? That's stretching it (literally). But to each their own. As for the OP, a good size tire for the Privats would be 265/40R18 or even 275/40R18. With the 265's your total wheel+tire diameter will come out to be less than stock so they won't rub against the fenders.

 

No need to go that wide. A 245 would sit with the sidewalls vertical. A 225 is slight stretch on a 8.5" width wheel.

 

Dude are you kidding!! That will rub all day 265? Am running 225 and I still rub if it hit a bad bump!! And its not even a stretch ill post a pic of my wheel...





See here the stretch is minimum!

 

It all depends on offset. I ran 255 all the way around on my 3rd gen.

 

OEM 6th gens come with 245's STOCK. Come on man.

 

You just said it 6th gens, were talking bout different chassis, come on man...

and to OP I seen someone had GTR wheels on their 6th gen... don't think yours will be a problem

on a side note i ran 245 45 in the back of my 5.5 on a s tech drop and rubbed so much that the fender tab was non existent

 

I have 245 40 18's in the rear with 8.5" and 22mm offset and I only rub on one side, Progress drop. But yes, it's enough rub to eat my tires on that side, fender rub is awful.


Also, my 4th gen has had 245 40 18's with 8" wide wheel +40 and no rubbing, eibach drop.

 

OP never said what diameter wheels he wanted to use. With 20x8.5" +27 and 245/35/20 tires lowered on Progress (and 2 12" subs in the trunk) I had to trim the rear fender liner where it covers the rear bumper mount, fronts had no issues.
