2001 Maxima ECM Replacement

Hey Y'all , I have a bit of a problem on this end. I need a ECM from either someone on this website or where to purchase one from a reputable company.

****** My Maxima is a; 2001 SE / 5-speed & 17'' Alloy wheels. *******

The ECM # on it is; A56 R62 ZE6. Nissan Part #; 23714-2Y900.
Was told by Nissan Dealer Parts/Service that I could replace ECM w/years 2000-2003 *(complete 5th Gen ). However every Salvage Yard I spoke to said it was a 2001 EXCLUSIVE ECM ONLY. Who the heck is correct?

Sent mine in for repair to a place in Van Nuys, CA. They just informed me that mine is too far burnt to rebuild. In fact they suggested I checked my wiring out in harness to make sure I didn't melt any wires as well. Apparently if your ECM is "too far gone", it can't be rebuilt anymore. Oh well, that's life.

At this point it appears that'll I have to buy a "rebuilt'' ECM from them or somewhere else. If anyone reading this post has this particular ECM & would consider selling it for a decent price, I'd be interested. I hate to spend so much for one part on this car, but I may have no choice.

I'm really at wit's end trying to "get lucky" & find this exact ECM in any junkyard. In fact, maybe with YOUR advice, I can be sent to the correct site.

Thanks in advance for ANY help in this highly regarded matter!~jdawg

Hey Fixer, Appreciate the reply. Well then 2001 it will be I guess. I really never felt "comfortable" when the "kid" at the Nissan Dealership told me I had the whole 5th Gen. to play with. So 2001 it is.

As far as the ECM goes, I sent it to Module Repair in Van Nuys, CA. They had a post on ebaymotors so I went ahead n sent it to them. They said they could repair "most" ECM's for $95. I figured the price was right, so off it went. He called me today & said I had circuit board damage too severe & they could not repair it. He did have a "rebuilt" one for $300 w a 1 yr. warranty, but I'm still trying to see if I can do any better on price. Although in all fairness to him & his business, they seem to have the best price I've seen so far.

He can ship it back to me if I don't want to go w one of their rebuilds, & I'm only out the cost of shipping, as I didn't pay for anything as of yet.

** Let me know if you would like to take a look at it, & maybe we can do business together. I'm really kinda hoping I can find someone like yourself that can do it for less. Paying that kind of $ for a component is more than I care to do.

Thanks for your help!~jdawg

The part number that you gave, 23714-2Y900, is a bracket, not the ECU. A ECU part number will start with 23710.

There are more than just one for the car, some of the differences depend on the type of emissions and the transmission.

If you want the actual part number, you can go to http://www.nissanpartszone.com/ and enter your car's VIN. Then on the next screen, select ENGINE ELECTRICAL and then ENGINE CONTROL MODULE.

You need an ECU for 201 Maxima, MT (with or without Traction Control?).

There are reputable sites that sell re-manufactured ECU. Rockauto.com sells them for ~$320 (minus $70 "core "refund) and Courtesy Nissan sells them for $500-700. Rockauto is reputable and their prices are great. I buy most of my parts from them but they currently don't have a replacement ECU for your car; that's a bit surprising because they have a wide selection for my car (2000 SE, AT).

Hey Guys, Thanks for the replies. Well I did go to; Nissanpartszone.com. Punch in my VIN # & this is what they came back with;

ECM part #; 23710-4Y910. Then just below that it has; Replaced by; 2371M-4Y916 RE. Which I'm assuming means Re manufactured Part.

The "bad" one I removed from my Maxi; A56 R62 ZE6 -1421 is the one that I was told is burnt too badly inside to rebuild. What I'd like to confirm is what ECM's *(if any) will interchange w mine. From what I've been told thus far, is that I have to get an EXACT match in the numbers. So hence, why it seems to make most sense to just rebuild mine if at all possible.

Called Rock Auto, NO luck. the ECM they show is made by Cardone & they don't have one available currently. Also called O'Reilly's. They also deal w Cardone on this part & are checking on price & availability.

Now it seems that even if I have to pay for a "reman", I can't even find the damn thing. I'm bout rdy to shove this car to the side of the garage & deal w it, whenever one comes along, w/o killing myself searching.

** Well "Fixer" if you want a crack at it, I can have that place in CA send it back *(or directly to you ) & see if you can "rectify the dead". lol

I really do appreciate the advice & time everyone is giving me. I told my mechanic frd *(who's doing he job) that these forums are the best!~jdawg
