84 Turbo Maxima [1st Gen]; RWD; MT; Atlanta, GA

Update: 5/25/2010... Price drop to $2000 obo without BBS wheels. $3000 with BBS wheels. Updated pictures.

Update: 3/11/2010... I'm going to start listing all of my spare parts here. I won't part out the car, but I will sell individual parts. Send requests and offers if you need anything. It will take a while to get everything sorted out.

Update: 2/16/2010... I've decided to put my Maxima back on the market.

So, I’m selling my Maxima and all of my parts for $3000 obo. I will consider a trade for a 24'+ enclosed car trailer or a pickup that is rated to tow 10,000+ lbs. Currently, I am not going to part out the car. I will edit this post with further details and add pictures as I have time. Here is a description of the car:

1984 Nissan Maxima [1st Generation]
205,000 miles on body
Blue / Blue

Engine:
82 280ZXT Engine (~160,000 miles)
Modified Oil Pickup
Modified Turbo Oil Drain
Z31 Computer System
K & N Cone Filter
ARP Head Studs
Rebuilt Head 15,000 miles ago (P90a)
Adjustable Waste Gate Modification (Boost set to a conservative 8psi)

Transmission / Clutch:
Stock 280ZXT Flywheel and Clutch
SS Clutch Hydraulic Line
Stock Maxima 5-speed Transmission
Custom Short Shifter

Exhaust:
3” mandrel bent SS w/ Magnaflow Cat and Muffler
See: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=329719
Exhaust Gas Temperature Probe on Cylinder 1

Suspension:
Tokico Illumina (5-way adjustable) Shocks / Struts
Ground Control Coilovers Front and Rear
Ground Control Front Camber / Castor Plates
Nismo Front T/C Bushing Set (Delrin ball, aluminum cup)
Addco Sway Bars (1 1/8” Front and 7/8” Rear)

Brakes:
SS Brake Hydraulic Lines
Black Powder Coated Rebuilt Calipers
Recent pads Front and Rear

Interior:
240Z Steering Wheel
Recaro Front Seats
LCD Display in Clock Location
Dash lights converted to 280ZX orange
Gauge Pod (Includes Boost Gauge and Exhaust Gas Temperature)
Optima Battery in Trunk

Audio:
6.5” Component Sets in Front
8” Sub Woofer in Rear Deck
No head unit or amp
See: http://www.graytechsoftware.com/garage/maxima_audio.asp

Exterior:
Currently Has 200SX Rims (15”x6”)
Shortened Bumpers
Dents and Rust shown in pictures

The mechanicals tend to outlast the car when in a northern setting (this car spent probably 180,000 miles up north). The body is in rough shape (there are dents in most panels, and rust is coming through the bottom of the doors, sills and fenders). The hydraulic lifters tap when cold or nearing oil change. I expect someone could drive and use this car for quite some time, but would eventually want to get a donor body (or do a lot of body work). I am located in Atlanta, GA, so anyone who might be interested is welcome to stop by. I have several spare parts (including 1 or 2 spare L24 Maxima Engines) that come with the car. I am asking $3000 for the car as it is with every spare Maxima part I have available.

Pictures (I will add up-to-date pictures as possible):

Front seats / dash:

Engine bay:

Modified dash lights:

Rims For Sale Separately:
I am also selling a set of Staggered BBS mesh rims (2x RS040 and 2x RS039) that have not been used since being refinished (so there are no tires on them). I’m selling them separately [from the car] for $1400 obo or with the car at a lower price. I have pictures of them and information about them in this thread:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=318675

So..
Please let me know if you have any questions about what the car has. You can contact me through maxima.org, call me at 678-279-4729, or email me here: cgray (at) graytechsoftware.com.

Thanks - Chris

Any news? You probably have the most highly modified 1st gen I've ever seen.

I'd hate to ask you, but if you're still willing, would you part with the suspension goodies, and maybe the exhaust? Are you still running the Eibach springs you stated on your site?

I've had your page bookmarked for some time and wanted to order a set of sways and other one-off type stuff (bump steer.. etc.) you had, but if you're letting go of the car, I figured I might as well get them off yours directly.

I'd take the whole car if I could, but I'm all the way west, in California.

My 1st gen is painfully stock, but nevertheless, is still a blast to drive. I'm hoping the suspension upgrades will breathe new life into it!

Parting it out...

UPDATE: I'm currently only interested in selling the car complete.

It is still available, and I am still willing to part the car out. The suspension on the car is not entirely the same as on my website as I have not updated it yet.

I am currently running Ground-Control coilovers, front camber plates, and Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable struts / shocks. The springs are Eibach linear 250 lb/in in the front and 225 lb/in in the rear. I am still running the Addco sway bars.

I'm not sure how long it will take me (as work is keeping me very busy right now), but I will attempt to add asking prices and pictures for some of the larger items... and pictures of the car in general.

For the items you were considering, I'm currently asking:
All suspension except sway bars - $1600 obo
Addco sway bars - $300
Turbo-back exhaust - $800 obo

Thanks - Chris

I've decided (for the time being) not to part the car. If I do part the car, I will likely keep the seats for another project.

Transmission started ticking, but still drivable. Temporary price drop to $3000 as is. I'll bump the price back up when I swap transmissions.

Thanks! This car is fun, fast, unsuspecting... but I think I may just be good with a camera, it looks cleaner than it is.

do you still remember where you got the coil overs, camber plates, and springs? were they specifically for the first gen maxima?

OP hasnt logged in for months. most of it was probably parts for 280ZX that were modded to fit a 1st gen, theres next to no aftermarket specifically for Datsun 810. OG 1st gen guys will have a better idea, but i know you can make 280ZX coilovers fit somehow

1st gen were the only RWD Maxima, same L series engine as Z. almost basically a sedan version of 280ZX

Nissan went from Datsun to Nissan in the early mid 80s, during the changeover many vehicles had double badges until around 1990 when they went straight Nissan. lots of early Z31, 1st and 2nd gen Maximas, etc had Datsun and Nissan badges

"Instant email notification" is my friend.

Coil-over setup was all by Ground-Control. The parts were specified for a 280ZX and basically bolt-on. They have not made the rear setup for quite some time (my rear setup was NOS ~8 years ago).

I had some challenges with spring rate and length, but I if I recall correctly, I ended up with 10" 250 lb/in front and 12" 225 lb/in rear springs.

I had an alternate source available, but they do not seem to exist any longer.

I probably cannot be much more help in that department as most of my Datsun brain space is filled with Audi now.
