New Best! 2K2 Auto..14.66

Hello fellow members,

I went to the track this weekend and got my new best time. Temp. were in the low 50's. I only got two runs in.

Brake torque to about 1.5K and manually shifted. About 23psi in front tires and removed spare tire in trunk.

First run (I left the shifter in 2nd and manually shifted to 3rd at redline):

RT 1.041
60' 2.348
330 6.352
1/8 9.633
MPH 76.92
1000 12.451
1/4 14.855
MPH 92.98

Second Run (I manually shifted from 1st and actually bounced off the limiter).

RT .806
60' 2.276
330 6.227
1/8 9.478
MPH 77.59
1000 12.279
1/4 14.668
MPH 94.74

I am happy with the 14.668, but this was my first time manually shifting from 1st. I have problems with the 1st-2nd shift because of the way the gated shifter is designed. I always miss 2nd and slide into third. This time I didn't miss 2nd, but I did bounce off the limiter because I did not shift in time. With a little more practice with the shift, I think I could do better.

I am working on posting the slip on my homepage now.

Very cold, low 50's. I only got two runs in. After running the 14.66 I wanted to get one more run in, but did not want to wait. I feel I could do better considering my first run was a 14.85 then a 14.66

Practice makes perfect..

Good luck to you Friday, hope to see you in the low 14's. Show everyone that our autos can play too! Keep me posted!

I was there to witness this! Congrates

Y-pipe should go on this week and we can have a rematch soon though!

One of us needs to post the vid too.

Launch?

How are you launching?

I used to own a Taurus SHO and figured out how to launch FWD after almost 100 passes with it. (BTW, I am using my little Bro's account, I actually have a Camaro- watch for me later as Camaro Pat)

You should be able to get close to 2.0 60's on street tires. My best was a 1.99 on Dunlop SP8000's. If you could rip a 2.0 short time, your ET would be VERY low 14's. There are a few tricks that I used in those days. One easy trick that helped me was spring compressors/ decompressors. You can find them at autozone. They fit in the coil spring and are designed not to let the spring compress in towing situations. I used them in the rear of the SHO (about 4 on each side) to get the springs to stay put. I would actually lift the rear of the car with them. The front tires would stick like mad after that. Total investment: under $20. Other than that, reduce the tire pressure some, but not much. Reducing it too much will cause the middle of the tire to lift, reducing your contact patch. I used low 20's psi.

How is your wheel spin out of the whole? I would figure of you are brake torquing the motor, that you have a good bit. I dont know the situation with newer Maxima's, but my bro's works better with an off-idle launch. The tires grab and go. If it hooks, you can torque the motor more, and more, and more, till you experience spin.

Drag racing is all in the first 60'. Get your car out of their fast, and everyon else will be fighting to hang in there.

I dont know if it has been posted, but every 1/10th gained in the 60' (all else being equal) yeilds about double on the 1/4 ET. Get a 2.0 60', and in theory, youll be in the 14.1's-14.2's

Good luck, and be safe

I am running stock 17's at about 23psi, do you think I should lower them to 20? I guess I could try and see next time.

I've got the Maxspeed springs, these seem to help me get a better launch, but..

Not good, but not bad. I watched the video of my runs and I had more spin than I thought. Although, I do not have any wheel hop

Do you mean just ease the gas in during the launch? I've heard of other members doing this, but the times seem to be pretty similar. It's worth a try though.

100% agree.

Thanks for the info. Good reasons to work on my 60'!
