15.631 @ 87.53 Mph

Ran at the local track last night and was pleasently surprised. I was thinking of a low 16 second car. I have a 96 SE auto with 189,000 miles with a Ebay Cold Air Intake.

First run: Did everything normal, no brake torque, no manually shifting. 15.735 @ 87.39

Second run: Brake toqued to maybe 1800? And I also manually shifted so that it would go to redline. BEST run... 15.631 @ 87.53

Third run: I diconnected my drop resistor to see if the quicker shifts would help me out. It didn't do anything for me. I brake toqued but let it shift on its on. Ran a 15.711 @ 86.47. It was funny barking the tires into second though.

it was a cooler night.... maybe in the upper 40's to lower 50's? The trick is brake torqueing and MANUALLY shifting the auto's. The track wasn't prepared worth crap... 60 ft times were in the 2.4's and the run where i just hit it normally off the line i got a 2.5 ... ouch. I'll keep you guys updated once i get my y pipe! I can't wait! Thanks for the comments

I also took out my driver side bumper light... so that cold air would reach the filter.

max pr your car should be trapping higher than 85 unless something is wrong. 87-88 is good for an auto, i think.

I remeber having an auto! Boy those were the slow days. 96 SE auto 15.7@87 with an HAI..woo. Now that I'm a 5 spd I just can't wait to go to the track. Good time btw, 15.6 is quite qwick.

Brake torqueing(bad for tranny) and manually shifting(proven to be pointless) aren't necessary.

I ran a 15.9 at 83mph at my first time at the track. But it will be better as sooner as I launch better. I hope to get 15.4

Brake torquing won't hurt the car if you dont' do it much. ANd manually shifting helps.... so the tenth i gained off of my 1/4 time wasn't from manually shifting? It was.. point proven. Its all in the time slips... thats all the proving i need

Can you prove it was from manually shifting? I can bet you that if I go to the track(1st time) and run many times, the first will be the worst of all of them.

Cani prove it? Sure.... automatics are VERY consistant. I could run all day at 15.7.... but the one time i did manually shifting... i beat that by a tenth. Thats roughly 10 hp or 100 lbs.

Brake torqueing is only harmful if you go above 2200rpm. Under that and it puts on minimal or no wear on the tranny. The torque converter can handle that load, it does around 800rpm everyday when you're sitting at a light. Manually shifting is pointless, i agree, better to leave it in drive, you wont need to hit redline, not enough power there anyways.

Have a 98 Nissan Maxima with a Generic Cone Filter and APEXi WS Cat back Exhaust, always wanted to see what i would run, thinking about heading to the track next saturday. My goal is 15.99 heh I've timed my 0-60 times manually shifting the auto, and leaving it in drive...same conditions, same stretch of road. Had a faster time with shifting it manually, maybe i'm just imagining things? Doh

Hey LudeAEM, now that you got your Y-Piper, you will have to take your High Mileage POS to the track and see what you can do, but you just got leather too, so you added a lil weight as well...scan in your timeslips next time and go to the other track where they "prep" it better. ;-)
