New PB - 14.720 @ 93.4 (96 5speed).....

I ran this at Island Dragway in NJ. It was sunny and 60degrees, not too humid.

Car: 96 Maxima SE 5speed

Mods and car setup:
-frankencar Intake
-Budget ypipe

-stock sawblades in front @ 26psi
-17" rims in back @ 34psi
-removed:
-spare
-jack
-tools
-passenger seat

Timeslip:
.250
2.257 (new pb)
6.240
9.501
76.33
12.317
14.720 (new pb)
93.40

I beat and older Monte Carlo SS off the line but then he realed me in and won the race. He ran a 14.231 @ 99.7.

What I did different this time out was the launch technique. I revved at 3k yes 3k!! It worked great. I slipped the clutch and had a nice little chirp off the line, then the tires hooked real nice. This track is much better than etown. I would never hook that well at etown esp if I revved at 3krpm.

My boy finally ran his 91 talon tsi awd. His only run he got a 14.0 @ 97.9mph. Not bad for about $500 on mods. He just has intake, turboback exhaust, mbc @ 19psi, fuel pump rewired, and clutch/flywheel. His 60' was a 1.988.

Yea I shifted into 4rth. I shifted like this:

1-2 @ redline
2-3 @ 6,200
3-4 @ 6k

"given your trap speed....." why? does my trap speed seem low? I always trap in the 93s. My highest was a 93.8mph, that run was a 14.8xx I think.

Let me ask you guys a question. Do you think a 14.5xx is out of my reach?? What if I nail a nice 2.1 60"?? possible?

I have i/y/e and my highest trap was 94.2...I shifted exactly how THeMAX95 shifted. Does that trap seem kinda low? The weather was in the low 50's and humidity like 50%? Not too bad of a weather but the track I went to was very poorly prepped. But i Heard traction doesn't really matter bout trap speed?

Yeah trap is a bit lower than I would expect. I figured you were staying in 3rd and that would explain it but it looks like I was wrong. I'd expect your trap to be around 95ish with those mods but all tracks run differently. Traction won't really affect your trap speed unless you spin for like 100 feet.

He would have to shift into 4th for a trap of 93mph I think... at least it would be very close. IF he is trapping 93.4mph, then he is at about 96 or 97mph when he crosses the finish line... and you wouldn't run 3rd gear to redline on USM... so yeah he would have to shift into 4th for that trap.

The trap does seem low for the mods, but the ET is about accurate. Looks like he is hooking up nicely.

Thats funny because last time at the track I raced an old monte carlo ss in my 04 maxima. He owned me off the line and I was pulling him in 3rd and 4th and he only won by a few feet. He was running 14.2s that night and my best was 14.7 that night.

95ish??? wow I dunno man, that might be pushin it. I mean englishtown is a really good track. It's something like 300ft above sea level and most people run their best times at that track. I dunno. When I first bought my car back in Jan 02 I ran it for the first time with i/y and I only trapt 89mph. Then I changed my ks and since then I've been trapping 93.xx, 93.9mph being my highest. Night and day difference!! It pulls so much harder after I changed the ks.

I might be able to trap close to 95mph but it's gonna have to be like 20degrees. That day was around 60.

But you are right about all tracks running differently so 95mph with only i/y is believeable I guess.

Neal isn't too far off... I trapped almost 97mph with a JWT popcharger and y-pipe alone... maybe b-pipe too (not that it makes much of a diff.) and my ET was 14.7 just like you, with those mods. This is also at a Canadian track, which generally isn't as good as the ones that you guys have... temp. might have been a bit lower (although not much lower than Chi-town if any) and humidity here sucks! But great job none-the-less!

a 95mph trap is doable. I have a 95 5 spd with same mods..intake and budget y pipe and slipping clutch..and i trapped 95.62mph with a 14.6.

i also stayed in third gear all the way but a little short of the finish, i was bouncing off the rev limiter so a 96-97 trap what i am looking to hit next.

I got a 96.xx mph trap with JWT cone, Budget y-pipe and maybe b-pipe... shifted into 4th... shifted at 6000RPM I think... don't recall right now... but play around with 6000 - 6200

I hit a whole bunch of 14.6-14.7@96mph traps when I had just my b-pipe, y-pipe, and intake and that's at 1100' above sea level, 60+ temps, and no gutting of the car. I think he'll get faster MPHs as he improves and learns to drive the car. It took me about 1 year to learn to drive my Maxima. I went from consistent 15.2s@92mph to consistent 14.7s@95mph+ with no other changes to the car other than learning how to launch better, shift faster, and giving the car enough time to cool off between runs.

E-town is a very good track, but you need to catch it on the right day, I hear.

I run the 1/4 with my OBDII scanner plugged in and I monitor and log the coolant temp. and air intake temp. - as long as the car does back-to-back-to-back... runs that is optimal for keeping the engine cool! Letting it sit doesn't let it cool as fast... gotta keep it moving fast!

The coolant temp. stays between 170 and 180 ideally... and air intake temp. of course depends on the outside temp. mostly, but it stays about 5-10 deg. cooler as long as I'm continuously running.

However, I do think that it is important to let the car sit between every couple of runs in order to let the tranny cool down! I learned that the hard way last year.

I'll try staying in 3rd next time and see what happens. I highly doubt it's physically possible to shift faster than I do. I don't mean to sound like I'm full of myself and no one can shift as fast as me. I just have really good hand/eye coordination and I know my car really well.

Anyway... next time out, I'm gonna be using my friend's stock millenia wheels up front and hopefully that will help. I'll keep you guys posted on my times.
