Bone stock... slicks?

It's my understanding that smaller tires will increase my acceleration but reduce my top speed... so why not try out 22" M/T slicks while I'm at it (I know, I know, WAAAAAY small and it'll look like **** but I'll drop later, right now I'm curious).

But it's only for the 1/4 mile, so who cares about top speed, right? I'll lose time shifting into 4th I'd think the improvement of sticky + small tires would be pretty ****ing big, enough to cancel out the time I take to shift.

Also, for some reason, people seem to think slicks are bad if you're bone stock... why? Can anyone shed some light on this? I really don't get it.

it would be interesting to see how your times improve with just slicks.

if you're a manual you should gain at least a .5 off your times with slicks alone...that is if you aren't afraid to launch it hard.

Yeah I was thinking of getting 2 12-pound rims and 22X15X8 Mickey Thompson slicks first thing, and a Y-pipe almost right after. Together, that should improve my times significantly (I got a 15.09 stock but I screwed with the throttle cable to idle higher and get quicker pedal response).

i think the reason people shy away from slicks on a stock car is because they could spend that money on something which will actually give them improved acceleration through the addition of horsepower and is usable all the time, on both the street and the track, rather than a part that can only be used on the track.

That's it? Cool.

By the way, did anyone else adjust the throttle cable?

I have done that to every car I own. Over time the cable will strech. I just adjust to taunt not anymore.

Look for the cables on your throttle body. And there will be adjustment nut and bolt on there. just losen the bolt and tighten the cable.

The throttle cable would have to be really loose to make a difference in throttle response....and that is all it would do. It's not going to add power.

No but it quickens the response. Every shift is faster because of this.

How hard are slicks on the car? I know it depends on how hard the driver is on the car. But i have a supercharger and would the slicks rip apart my axles and tranny? I am not into dropping the clutch from 5 grand but with the slicks not giving out like street tires sends the stress somewhere else.
