auto guys..how yall launch at the track?

ok in various posts ive noted that i have crappy time slips and i think most of it its due to my launching. what i do is tourque brake the gas to the floor(usally around 2300rpm) and the brake as hard as i can and just let it go at the 3rd yellow. mind you i dont have a r/t problem those are almost perfect its just the fact that my 60 ft times are like 2.4X crappy. i would think that launching how i do would be faster than tourquing to say 1600rpm then flooring it while simulatiously letting off the brake, or am i wrong to assume that? also i always have little to no wheelspin off the line when i launch but it seems most people at least spin some of the time, where as my car most of the time just goes and doesnt spin(not that thats not a problem ). so how do the fellow auto tranny guys launch? my way or less rpms? thanks -ryan

first i do a quick burn out. then i get up to the line, wait for the 2nd yellow light and just floor it. Make sure your O/D is off until around 60Mph.

o/d off won't do anything, unless you get over 120mph

ill doubt your trapspeed will be anywhere near 126mph anyways. just keep it in D because youll be somewhere in 3rd by the time you pass by.

If you keep O/D off, the TQ converter will lock-up around 78-82mph in 3rd gear.

true, if ya keep your OD off, you can get up around 125mph, and just before redline(6500rpm), switch OD on, this way you can get into the high 130's close to 140mph depending on your car.

You won't get close to that speed in the 1/4 so why bother?

Put the car in D and leave OD off. Torque brake just as you hit your mark and on the second yellow, mash the accelerator to the floor while releasing the brake at the same time. To make the tranny shift faster just feather off the accelerator at redline.

who cares what your reaction time is. They do not consider it for 1/4 mile time.

You could sit on the line for 1 hour and your 1/4 will be the same. RT's don't matter.

yes i understand that guys i guess im just saying somthing wrong in asking my question so i guess nvm that and i just wanna know if powerbraking to like 1600rpm and flooring it at the same time as letting off the brake is the fastest way to do it?

Leaving the line at a higher RPM is better, especially with an auto. Our cars take a while to spool up in 1st gear. The trick is not to spin, even a little from the line. The Max should be able to get a 2.3 60 ft with no problem. When I launch, I slowly press the gas to the floor. If I mash it to the floor, I just spin. I went out and bought a G-Timer from Escort, and it really helps you learn what is faster. Try different methods, and see what works best for you. I have run as fast as 2.15 for 60 ft, with street tires, and no N2O. You just have to learn what the traction limits are, and be right on the line between a clean launch, and spinning to hold these times. Practice is the only answer.

would it help to torque brake and rev the engine at a higher rpm and then launch?

I get my best 60's from this method. Foot on brake, rev to approx 900-1000, leave on last yellow.
