STS = Better time?
STS = Better time?
Just wondering if anyone out there has done the short throw shifter and tested it out at the track, compared with the stock throw. When I went to the track in Oct. I shifted like I stole it. I'm curious to know if the reduced throw will improve times? 0.1 or 0.2? Thanks.
ha ! .1 or .2 man i wish !! sts will make the experience of driving the car so much better, but the sad fact is, if you are shifting blazing fast already, like most maxima peeps do, the sts just cant cut that kinda time off at the strip. i have rowed with the best of them down the 1/4 mile strip with stock shifter , and shifted with blazing speed and acuracy with an sts and all i can say is that its a better experience, its sportier but it didnt cut down the times.
i love the sts so much better than stock but i think its feel thing over a speed thing.

Thanks guys! I had a feeling that would be the case. I have the ES shifter bushings, so when I do that I might as well do the sts at the same time. I'm with you ceasar, if it makes the driving experience better, it's worth it.
my STS is more for looks than performance, the customenterprise.com STS i have sux @$$, so notchy and rigid, its almost not worth having a STS. didn't do anything for performance either, i shift pretty fast, so the STS doesnt affect me much or at all.
Does anyone else with a 5th gen have a sts. The only one I've seen my car is 2nd gen on cust max and stillen. Just wondering how smooth it is? I've read that the new bushings help, which I plan on putting in.
STS's do nothing to improve times. In fact they make you less consistant because the chance of missing a gear is higher with an STS. I'm not saying this is a reason not to get one. The joy of having a nice crisp shifter outweighs the occasional missed gear. Also, STS's make it harder to get into gear; theoretically saving your synchros some wear.
I've never missed a gear with my sts...it was MUCH harder for the 2-3 shift with the stock shifter in fact.
It just depends on your own comfort level. I know plenty of people on both sides of the fence.
I totally got a .005 quicker time in the 1/4 after I installed my B&M sts.
lol

So if some of you say the STS makes it harder to get into gear and makes missing a gear a bigger problem, them why get one? I was gonna get one for my 6th gen because the throw is way to long and it actually seems like it could save a lil time.
Its more that it takes a bit of relearning. After the first week I never m!ssed gears. If you aren't paying attention you will m!ss every once and a while. But when you're racing you better be paying attention. The purpose of these is more to convey the sporty feeling to the driver. Not really to make you faster.
If you had perfectly consistant track times and switched to an sts it would slightly improve your times. However there are so many variables when racing that there is now way to acurately determine such a minor improvement. Its worth it just for a better shifting experiance though so i wouldnt worry to much about it.
