improving your times??

hey guys. Well just got to posting my slip from Sunday. I wish i would have done better then i did. I was hoping to break into the 14's but from what i ran it didnt want to happen. I was wondering how i could improve my times.

Launching Techinques?
Stay in 3rd or shift to 4th?

Here is my best time of the day:

ET 1/4 Mile.......... 15.25
R/T.................... .7693
Speed 1/4 Mile..... 89.4
60 Foot.............. 2.18
1/8 Mile.............. 9.78

I dont have my other slips around but i was constantly in the 15.4 - 15.5 with a random 15.8 in there also.

I know i can improve my r/t time. Should i be able to break into the 14s? i have Frankencar intake, Y pipe, stock sawblades, AGXs on 4. Anything you guys can recommend?

Sean

Your car seems a little down on power. A 2.18 60 ft time is a pretty decent launch, but your trap speed is low. A 5spd max is capable of 14's stock, so you are losing hp somewhere. What was the weather like, and what track did you run at? Any problems or codes on the car?

Track was 75/80 in MD. It is known to be an "uphill" track. Well as of right now my muffler is disconnected with 2 bolts stuck in the holes. My friends decided it would befunny to take it off. well in the process will broke both bolt heads. Would that make it lose power? Maybe ill check the ECU for codes today but no light on the cluster has came up yet. It has a new Spec clutch installed and the tranny was just rebuilt. Where else could i be losing power?

Tune-up items:

knock sensor
spark plugs
air filter
bad coil

could be many things.

not trying to be stupid here but you said the clutch was new, did you give it a proper break in before you raced?

the clutch was properly broke in. Didnt get into it for a good 5-7k miles on the clutch. The knock sensor and spark plugs are new, the air filter is getting dirty. It has about 15k miles on it. I have the recharge kit in my car. Maybe i should do that. Im gonna go check for codes here in a seconds maybe ill find some ghost light or something.

I have few more mods than you and your mph is almost 5mph less.
Your 60' is actually very good, that isn't your problem.

What rpms are you shifting at in what gear?

Leaving it in 3rd or 4th will only be about a .1 difference and about a 1-2mph difference. For me anyway. Shifting to 4th will give better time, keeping it in 3rd will give better mph. I don't think this is your problem either.

I would also bet something went out like the KS...but you ruled that out?

Buy a rear wheel drive car!

I tried taking my 02 to the track when it was new but all I could get was a 2.1? 60' and 14.7 et with lots of wheel hop. I then added a few mods and then decided the Maxima was just going to be a nice peppy daily driver. I race with my 98 Z28! Run 10's with a factory mass air body, throttle body, intake and heads. Modified of course...

I don't really know much about good 1/4 mile traps with that time, but do you know the 1/8 mile? Are you taking every gear to redline? I thought I read somewhere you were supposed to shift before redline after 1st gear in 4th gens.

PS: Put the 00 VI on and I bet you'll hit your 14's

Yes he will with some sort of VI, but it's possible w/o it .. Agreed about the shift points too.

I know with a non modified engine the power falls off at 5500 but with the ecu and the mevi you should be able to caryy it a lot longer, my opinion you shouldnt need to leave third for a quarter.

I was sort of kidding about the 00vi. You most definitely should not need it to hit 14's especially in a manual.
