Well I decided to go the track today. Trials start at 3 P.M and races at 7 P.M. It was pretty packed as far as Semi-pro (13.99 to 10.00) class and Super Pro (9.99 and lower) classes are concerned, but for us, street, there were like 6 or 7 cars.

3.5 swap
Cattman headers & 2.5 catback
CAI
No AC/PS
215/60/15 Bald Yokohamas (35 psi rear, 27 front)

Stock 95 ECU, no tuning, stock 6500 rev limiter.

Anyway first run was a 14.50 at 100.557 mph. 60 foot was a 2.39. I have never raced at this track before so the tech let me run alone on my first run.

On the next run I verified how close to the line I could get in 3rd gear. Hit the rev limiter and eased off at least a second before the line. This resulted in a really sh*tty 14.87 at 94 mph. I also cut a 2.55 on that run Wheelhop was had to let off

What's funny is that there was a Black Del Sol behind me and when he pulled up behind my car I saw him laugh in my mirror. I got the last laugh though since even with that awful run I was able to pull a full second on him. F*ck you, Honda punks.

Third run I was up against a 5.0 mustang with Weld Draglites and slicks so I immediately knew I was f*cked. He was sleeping off the line though. Timeslip:

He didn't seem to have much top end tho, in the second half of the track he barely pulled any more advance on me.

Wheel hop was back for my 4th and final qualification run, bringing an amazing 2.487 60 foot and a 14.781 at (get this) 101.297 mph. Is that ridiculous or what? The CRX I was up against took the win with a 14.49.

That was for the qualifications. It was a bracket race (Pretty stupid going to the track first time with the 3.5 on a bracket race day).

I saw the consistancy between my 14.50 and 14.44 runs so I dialed in a 14.40.

First run of eliminations I was against a Mitsu Lancer (not Evo, the crappy version). I know this because he had a 15.90 dialed in

He basically lost at the line. His reaction time was a .702. Mine was a .152. Not too bad. Unfortunately I pulled my worst run ever. Wheelhopped like a paraplegic parkinsion seizure victim on crack, 2.56 60 foot and a 14.91 at 99.91 mph. I won by a hair.

Anyway, it rained for 15 minutes, and they passed the 6-second jet cars right after 10 minutes of "drying" (Those guys are f*cking nuts).

I went back for a 2nd run, but the only other guy remaining (The CRX that ran 14.49) didn't show up so the tech told me to run alone.

Again I f*cked up my launch and the E.T. was crap, but my shifting improved and it shows:

As you can see, the trap speed indicates easy 13s once I can get out of the hole. Also consider that I eased off on the throttle in first gear and still have the stock 2k2 manifold with no tuning whatsover. The bad E.Ts are a combination of the track, weather (puts the H back in Humidity), driver, driver, driver, and the car (traction wise, the wheel hop is just terrible).

I am going back tomorrow if it doesn't rain and I'm zip tying the front springs with as many 250 lbs zip-ties as I can find. I'll also lower the pressure some more and block the rear springs with rubber studs. Hoping for low 14s at least. I am happy with the trap speeds (and reaction times), but that's about it.

Still, on half a dozen occasions people came to ask what I had in it. I guess it's the sound and the trap speeds, not the ET.

 

I sympathize. I am the opposite though. Solid low end but unreal ****ty top-end. A 2.162 60' and only a 14.82 at 93.15mph. The top end is SO dead!
Once you get that thing straight you will be running extra sweet.

 

Thanks. My car was so much easier to control when it was stock. 15.00 at only 91 mph. The 3.0 didn't hop, spin or torque steer. It went straight, consistant and how I wanted it to.

I too am surprised about the top end. The 2k2 manifold has poor flow and my A/F and timing hasn't been tuned, not to mention having the stock rev limiter. I think my shifting is fine (especially on the last run) but launching oh man

Going back in about two hours. Stopping at home Depot to buy 175-250 lbs tensile beefy Zip ties. I already have Canadian Tire rubber studs to block my rear springs.

Are you auto? Autos are the sh*t for consistancy and 60 foots.

 

Oh how I wish I was in the 14's

 

So far I'm not really impressed with these times in the recently swapped 3.5 4th gens.

 

Yeah I have an auto. Threw in the DR mod, but haven't had a good run with it yet.

 

It doesn't help your wheelhop situation, and wheelhop is not good for your car mechanically, but often my best 60' times come on the runs where I get the worse wheelhop. My 14.51 in my stock 95 was with really bad hop.

 

JClaw, great times and trap speeds are impressive, but i wouldn't really go running that car like that without any tunning. Also wouldn't some Upgraded motor mounts help with your wheel hop?

 

What are you launching at? You are trapping high enough for 13 second times.

 

But remember, I only have 3 mods, stock ECU, no VI, and no weight reduction done whatsoever.


With the addition of D/R's alone, I think I can drop into the 13's within a few runs at the track.

 

Killer traps .... I'd like to see how bad you really are tuned ...
