2002 Maxima Auto v.s 2000 toyota solara 5 speed
Take it to the track, but you should have not have a problem. F/C intake will do about nothing for you car but blow your MAF. ... If you had headers, I would say it would be a waste of a thread, but since you don't, it might be a decent race. Is he stock?
It'll probably be closer than you think. This is happening on the track right?

The solara is going to win hands down unless he is a poor driver, in which case anything could happen. A good driver could put that car in the high 14s stock. Your car isn't anywhere close to high 14s most likely... more like mid-high 15s. Don't put money on it is my advice. IBTL
Well I'm completely retarded... I didn't read that he had an 02 or a 99... I thought he said he had a 2000 auto lol
So yeah in that case, you should win hands down. Those 5spd V6 Solaras (and the rare 5spd v6 camry) would smack an auto 3.0 around was the point I was trying to make

Auto 3.5's seem to do a lot better than Auto 3.0's when you compare manual to automatic:
Auto 3.0: 16.0-15.7
5-speed 3.0: 15.2-14.8 (Or 14.51 if you've got insane driving skills
)
Auto 3.5: 14.9-14.7 (best: 14.4)
6-speed 3.5: 14.6-14.3 (best: 14.1)
A 5-speed 3.0 just pisses on the auto, but for 3.5's the auto can give a 6-sp a run for its money.

^^ i agree. i'd have to say a lot of it is the torquey engine and the soft 6spd.. these 4AT's aren't anything to brag about by any means....except when you beat a decently quick manual car haha

Torque... it's all in the launch. There is a sort of threshold, that the 3.0 auto is below, where an auto car just can't get off the line. It gets even worse as you get down the line even more in power. Like an auto civic vs a 5spd civic, etc.

I'd think drivetrain loss is more of a factor when moving at speed anyways, not so much off the launch if you've got the torque. I was only mentioning a minor point in comparing the 6-spd to auto overall times (even though I didn't state it like that...)

*Sigh* ... you're right, launch is significant for ET, less for trap. Don't know why I said that. I can't think straight - I'm tired and I've got a bad headache... obviously I'm incapable of putting cohesive thoughts together right now. I shoulda just stayed in bed this morning.
A 2k2 will took that Solara easily, as for a 2K1 euhm, a stock one would get owned or it will be a closed match if the Solara driver sucks. I have a 2k1 auto with all the bolts-on, ( Ypipe, Cat-Back, Berk-Intake, Advance timing, D2, RSB, FSTB & ES Bushing etc... I have very light 17" wheels, Aluminum front brake calipers, no spare and nothing in the trunk ). My brother in law has a 2k1 auto stock, we are very good friend and we've race a numerous time, I took him baddly every single time we've raced. I even drove his car, he drove mine and he took me by many cars distance.
my girls mother has a 01 solara auto... its pretty fast but not fast enough for a 2k2.... a 5 speed on the other hand might be tight...... depends on the launch and the driver...but fast car indeed
Honestly, it all depends on the driver and how he shifts that Solara! If you're going to the track why wouldn't you auto shift your Max from 1 2 D. The Solara is never gonna hit 4th at the track anyway and neither is the max! It's only a 1/4 mile remember! So it comes down to the drivers! In my opinion you should be able to take the Solara! My cousin has an 01 auto Solara and I'm auto in my AE, we both ran at the track with auto shifting the cars ourselves and the Max took him out everytime! an average of 15.4 on the Max and 16.1 on the Solara. Both stock! Good luck but don't be intimidated by a Solara or the driver. It should be a pretty nice run between the both of you! Good luck again! Peace
My buddys best friend had a Solara SE 5spd V6, we ran one time- I had 5 people including me in the car and I still spanked him. They are not all too fast, when I ran him with just me driving I messed up the launch big time- too much wheel spin and I caught up to him like nothing and just kept on pulling away without ever looking back.
Those cars ride like boats, and their engines are very unreliable- for a Toyota engine that is.
