99se 5sp vs. 92 5.0 mustang5sp
Hey guys my buddy is wanting to race my 99se 5sp .....I have a y pipe stock intake for torque and jwt ecu....he has a 92 mustang gt. 5.0 5sp KaN intake he wants to race for $150.... when i had my auto ypipe intake and sp2 i ran about 21/2 cars do you think i could beat him in my 5sp
Is this a street race or at the track?
Stop being
and just race.. The outcome depends on wayyy too many things.
Only race for $$$ if you're confident you can win, especially for your fisrt born, errr I mean 150$.
Post timeslips when you're done.

hopefully hell panic and stay stuck at start makin smoke... thats if he is a bad driver... it would be close anyhow... dont underestimate those cars... but then again sounds like your a nooB too..
It's possible that you would win, but I think the likelyhood is that you'll get smacked. Bet him a 6 pack instead (and then drink it after you've done all your driving for the night of course).
hmm
ok a stock 92 GT will run high 14's to low 15's with a good driver...an LX (which is one with a bunch of plastic side cladding)..or the one u can see the exhaust pipes on the back....they can easily run mid 14's ....with a good driver too..... and ur car...well....i think the cars might be about the same
unless he has changed the rear end of the car.....u change the gears and he'll hand ur *** to u...... u can easily run 13's swapping out the rear end on a fox 5.0...so its not just the engine. if ur not family with a stock 5.0 engine then he could have stuff u wouldnt know about...a simple advancing of the ignition timing (which is a very common mod)...or a Fuel pressure regulator(another common one)....these two mods together could give the v8 gains ud see by a y pipe .....
your best bet is to run him for a 6 pack like someone else mentioned.....if u run and lose....ull lose to a mustang and lose 150 bucks.....thats gay
anywho...im not saying Dont race him.....just dont do it for 150!...the fact that ur thinking ull lose will probably make u nervous and ull end up losing..hehe
<---had an 89 5.0gt....

Have you run your car at the track?
I would probably compare 1/4 times with him before racing.
Like drvefastho said, there are a lot of things you can do to a Mustang to eat up people in the 1/4 mile. Rearend would be the biggest. Usually exhaust work helps those out, too.
Remember, a 92 Mustang GT stock has 225 hp, 300 ft lbs of torque and weighs about the same as a Maxima, just a little over 3k lbs. Stock 1/4 miles times (magazine tests) for the 86-93 stangs are usually around 14.5-14.9 with a 5-speed.
I had an 86 GT convertible (first year of FI, 200 hp, 285 ft lb of torque -- crappiest year for FI GTs) and with a k &n panel filter, an off-road x-pipe and better exhaust, it was at least as quick as my max, which runs in the high 14s. My old Mustang was a convertible, too, which is heavier.

I'd say the 5.0 will win with a 14.7 with street tires and good driver. A good time for you will be 14.9. I would definitely put my money on the Stang if he's capable of launching that thing. Race him and tell us how it went. I want to see timeslips also!
