New PB again!! 13.13@104.41, 1.87 60 foot (N/A 3L)

So I got out to the track again today and somehow managed to blow my previous PB's out of the water from last week. lol. Still haven't changed anything mod-wise from last week, just had better traction today on a much better prepped track. Oh, and I got the low temp T-stat in also. Other than that same setup.

First run of the day I hit the best sixty foot... 1.87, but only ran a 13.30 @ 102.69. Then after that ran a 13.32@102.81 before nailing the 13.13. Last run was a 13.27 @ 102.75. Only got in 4 as it was a busy event day.

Traps were down a little this week except for the 3rd run, and the 2-step wasn't working still, although I got the remote datalogger working on the EU so I finally think I know why the limiter didn't work. Looks like a problem with my TPS signal.

All in all, not too shabby for a N/A 3L I'd say!! The VQ rocks! Damn I'm knockin' on 12's door. And there's still more to come... gotta get a couple mods finished up yet.

Anyways, timeslips are below, #3 is the 13.13. I ran against F-bodies all day except one run.

What the crap? I don't want to ever hear people telling me that MY track is good. You guys have access to that cooler, fresher Canadian air.

Good job man.

Aha - I see the real secret = "1998. 3L. 5-spd. Sterling Mist. SE. 00VI."

It's the combination of Sterling Mist (my favorite color) in Canadian air...

You're doing a fastastic job! The 12's are coming!

The weather was great this past weekend, I wish my clutch was in so I could join you. Those are excellent numbers and I am confident you are going to break into the 12's with your next set of mods. Incredible work Dan.

Do you plan on changing your clutch or flywheel at all?

Last time I saw they were 15" Millenia wheels, but that may have been his DR's and not slicks.

some pics from yesterday

Here's some pics from the track yesterday. Keep in mind the car has not been washed in weeks so that Sterling Mist is not gleaming like it can... lol.

The pics are mostly shots taken by the track photographer so that's why you see the overlay (I just snagged them off the website). But there's also a couple I took when I had a moment at the end of the day before changing the tires.

Mucho thanks for all the kind words and congrats guys!! Now to answer a few questions:

It's a work in progress... having problems with the 2-step currently but it may not be the EU's fault.

I will dyno eventually as soon as I finish up a couple more mods. I'm just road-tuned at this point, more of an educated guess at a tune than anything really.

Thanks dude! What kind of beer did you get, was it good? lol. Yeah I got the usual inquiries about where the turbo was or what size it was. Especially because of the large bracket event, several of the guys running Mod class with 10 sec domestics saw me run and were amazed I could be that quick all-motor.

Yes.. see my reply to krismax above..

Well the 2-step still wasn't working, but now I have a lead on what might be the problem. Might post more on the EU thread in the boosted forum once I get it fixed. I tried a few different launch rpms, generally in the 5500 to 6500 range. Stock clutch held... for now...

You have nitrous air in Quebec? Sweet!! I'm comin' on over to race there! The temp was about 66-68 yesterday, with a RH of 40%. The track is ~600ft AMSL.

Kingrukus is sort of correct but not... I did have DR's on Millenias last year but the slicks I'm using now are mounted on 15" Kosei K1's.

Well hurry up and get 'er in man! lol. If you haven't noticed the weather is still good lately and not too hot even though it's June now.

I am not planning on changing the clutch or flywheel at all until one of two things happens: A) I burn out the clutch with all the abuse it's taking, or B) I get around to doing the VQ35 swap, whichever happens first I guess. haha. I could add a clutch and flywheel, but right now I am hoping not to spend the money and make do. It's a tight year budget-wise with several big non-automotive items sucking up funds as well.

You are using 24.5 slicks right? What rpm are you shifting at, and what rpm and gear do you end up? I assume you are shifting to 4th, but if you are running 7500rpm you could be staying in 3rd I guess.

Yes the slicks are M&H 24.5x8.5x15's. I don't shift into 4th, IIRC finishing in 3rd around 7k depending on shift points. I've been playing with those a bit too, anywhere from 7300 up to 7600 usually.

But I'll have a better idea once I get the mods all finished up and get tuned up on the dyno so I actually have a power curve to look at.

If you're staying in 3rd I would suggest 26-inch slicks. The extra sidewall would help on the launch.

Hmm... yeah I may play around with 26" at some point. We'll see. Still got quite a few other things to finish up first.

Ceasar: you kill me! lol The starters not even looking my way.. he's watching the pair before me to see that they're off the end of the track.. lol

I bought 26" slicks for my NA car specifically so I could stay in 3rd gear back in the day.

Are you planning on doing any suspension modification and a clutch change to get it out of the hole even harder? If you can pull a jclaw 1.7 you'd be in the 12s without any more power needed.

Well if by suspension you mean any trickery with the rear (I'm already on KSports).... I'm considering it, just working my way through a list I guess.. the top things being the exhaust cutout and some custom mods to my VI/TB and intake. Once I get the power mods done then I need to finish the EU tune on a dyno. I was hoping not to have to change the clutch but we'll see. I'm kind of surprised it's held like it has so far...

As for JClaw pulling a 1.7 that'd be awesome if I could but not sure if it's possible with the 3L. He would have had an extra 20-30 ft-lbs of TQ on me at least with the 3.5. I do think I can get deeper into the 1.8's though, especially once I get the 2-step working.

There's still a lot of playing/changing of setup things I can do at this point. I've only got 18 passes in this year so far in 3 days. Lots of season left at this point.

If you pull out some weight you might make up the tq difference. Plus, a lighter car is easier on the drivetrain.

I just asked my bro to weight my car now that he drives it and everything considered I think my raceweight was closer to 3100 than I originally thought, even taking into account that I had no spare and the 3.5. So, launching higher (6000-6500) and some weight reduction should put you in the 1.7's. Especially since the DE-K makes so much power up top. Hell I I never trapped higher than 103 on slicks so either your car is lighter or it has more top end than I had.

Also, if I were keeping my maxima, I would have tried more stuff to help my launch. Here's what I had planned for the next two years or so:

1-K-sports (you already have that).

2-4.47 final drive with 26" slicks to counter gearing a little. A taller tire and sidewall with more aggressive gearing is much better than a smaller tire with less aggressive gearing. And it allows you to use almost all of 4th gear effectively. A 26X10 slick on the right wheel hooks MUCH harder than the 23X8.5 on 6.5" sawblades I had when I pulled the 1.75. That's potential for ya...

3-Very tall and narrow tires for the rear, you can fit something like 27" in the wheel wheels. Narrow=little rolling resistance. That would biase the weight distribution towards the front and the car would have to fight to transfer the weight to the back. Something ridiculous like 185/75/15. Track only of course.

4-Now this one is real hardcore but sitting the engine and trans lower would lower the center of gravity, which helps keep the weight on the front wheels during acceleration. RWD guys sometimes do the opposite for weight transfer, and pro stock guys who want to keep their front wheels on the ground sit their engine very low. Makes sense. Look at the hardest hooking FWD cars (GTP Grand Prixs and SRT-4), they either have long wheelbases, weight bias towards the front and their sittings sitting surprisingly low in their engine bays...

5-WIDE front wheels. I can't stress this one enough. 26X10 slicks on 15X10 wheels with rim screws are enough to pull a 1.6 60' in a FWD car. The SRT-4 guys do it all the time.

6-200 lbs of weight reduction

7-And upgraded axles

Anyway I'll just throw in the fact that FWD drag racers are extremely persistant to try to hook with small slicks. I was guilty of that one too. I see 22 and 23-inch slicks all the time on FWD cars running 11's and 12's. What do mustang and f-body guys use running high 12's? 26's at the very least. A car trapping 105-110 mph should be using 26" slicks. Yeah, they're RWD solid axle, but tire sizing is the most important part of the equation. You want as many chances on your side as possible... If Neal or Mardi could fit 28-inch slicks on the front of their cars I'm sure they would lol...

On a good track I'd say 1.65-1.70's wouldn't be a problem with the new gearing. That is getting out of the hole ridiculously hard.

May i ask what are your modifications to achieve that seeing that u are NA???. I am considering a set up that would allow me to achieve 13 sec class car with either a VQ30 Or 35.
