Need Slicks Help

Ok guys I have a 87 maxima and it is boosted with a VG33 in it at 13psi. I have a set of 20" x 8" on a 14" rim. Those came with the car. I think those are too small of a slick for it. Other People have told me that too.

What are my other options on this. Like what size is best to run on. I have a set of 15" rims for it.

I have not ran it yet at the track with the 20" Slick but the owner said before I bought it that he was crossing the line in the 4500RPM range in 5th gear.

20" slicks lol I didn't even know they made them that small. You probably don't want to be running 5th gear through the traps. 24.5 or 26" slick would probably work out better, but I'd need more info to really make a good assessment. If you have a dyno plot, dyno numbers, timeslip, etc that would really help. I need to get some idea of what kind of power you are putting down, and what your gearing is like.

I put down 393FTQ and 287WHP. Times on street tires are about a 13.8 on average with trap speeds of 108. I am not at my house right now to give exact times but I will post up when I get back. So a 20" slick is for sure too small. My next step is 24.5" slick.

Where is the best place to buy them.

It's good that you've got some numbers, that will help me run the simulations. What RPM was your HP and TQ number at, if you have the dyno sheet, that would be even better - and post up that timeslip when you're able. I'm assuming your car is a 5spd using the stock gear ratios for an 87 maxima, right?

Here's what I've got so far, assuming your HP and TQ peaks about where the stock numbers peak. If your car peaks differently then that could totally change these numbers. This was basically just a gearing test - I wouldn't pay much attention to the 60' times, etc. I was just running this test to see where in the powerband your car would be, given different slick sizes.

Tire Dia. 1/4ET Trap 60 ft notes

20" 5.23 12.62 111.6 1.78 cross line @ 4600rpm in 5th - blah
22" 5.76 12.55 110.9 1.81 shift to 5th right before line - bad
23" 6.02 12.44 113.1 1.82 shift to 5th right at or after line - careful
24.5" 6.41 12.43 112.8 1.85 shift to 5th @ 121mph - plenty of headroom
26" 6.81 12.45 112.3 1.90 shift to 4th @ 100, 5th @ 129
27" 7.07 12.45 112.0 1.92 shift to 4th @ 104, 5th @ 134
28" 7.33 12.47 111.7 1.95 shift to 4th @ 108, to 5th @ 139

I would not go with anything smaller than 24.5's at your power level.

Guys, I decided to sell it or part it out. Nah just ****ing with you all. I am wanting to build one of the world fastest maxima's. I am gonna reroute my turbo to sit over my tranny and build my extra motor i have with piston and rods. I am looking to hit low 11's on Turbo no Spray.

So a 26" would do great?
